2024 Karoq Virtual Cockpit – Classic view auto-switching to built-in nav when CarPlay active

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’m having an issue with the Virtual Cockpit on my 2024 Škoda Karoq and hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

When I start navigation in Google Maps / Apple Maps via Apple CarPlay, the Virtual Cockpit automatically switches the centre display in Classic view to show the built-in Škoda navigation map (see attached screenshot). Previously, it showed CarPlay turn-by-turn route guidance (arrow + distance) in the centre section as expected - and this still works correctly in Basic view.

This started happening without any intentional changes on my part, which makes me think either a widget setting got changed accidentally, or an firmware update altered the behaviour.

I’ve tried navigating the VC menu via the steering wheel scroll wheel but can’t find a way to lock the centre widget back to route guidance rather than the built-in nav map.

Is there a way to reconfigure the Classic view centre widget back to CarPlay route guidance via the steering wheel controls, and if so what’s the exact sequence?

Any help appreciated. Happy to share firmware version if that’s useful.

This is the hardware and software versions in my 2023 Sportline. I suspect your car will have later versions of both. With my Karoq the built in sat nav has a setup tick box to show the map in the centre of the classic VC dash and then it shows the compass on the main screen. If unticked (the setting I use) it shows the compass on the centre section when Navigation is selected for the centre section by the button/scroll. The route guidance ie next turn info automatically gets displayed on the centre section when the route is selected. I couldn’t find a way to get CarPlay display anything from the iPhone screen in the centre if the VC dash. I’d be interested to know what the hardware/software versions your Karoq has as I ditched CarPlay 18 months ago because it didn’t seem to be integrated with the dash or steering wheel controls.

@thamestrader thanks for your response! I will check the hardware / software versions and post them later. How do you access the setup tick box? I wasn’t able to find that option when I was searching last night.

I use Google maps and display since start fuel consumption on the virtual dash. When I make a change to google maps, the virtual dash changes to the view shown in the photo. To get it back to how I want it, I have to press the bottom left button on the right side of the steering wheel and scroll up to reset. There may be the opportunity using the scroll to set it to how you want it.

Its on this screen - tap the three dots bottom right on the map display screen. I have it unticked as I prefer to have the map on the main screen and use the centre dash display for the Phone when not 'Navigating' and the turn by turn guidance automatically gets displayed in the centre of the dash, at the end of a route the centre section reverts to displaying the compass, so I have to manually Telephone via the scroll wheel. I guess we'd all like to have the ability to define the default position on startup, and probably the ability to decide if every start should default (which would be problematical for stop/start) or whether the default should only apply after 2 hours like the 'Since Start' driving stats.

@Routemaster1461 thanks for response! Yeah that is what happens to me too. Really frustrating.

@thamestrader Thanks again for responding. I don’t see the option to show map in cluster unfortunately, most probably because the hardware / software versions are different (see attached). Really frustrating.

I agree on the flexibility point. Ideally there’d be a way to define a persistent default for the Virtual Cockpit layout, either at startup or after a set period. In my case, I’d prefer the centre display to consistently show that turn-by-turn guidance from Google Maps/Apple Maps, rather than having the built-in navigation view.
