What oil spec? 2021 1.5 TSI

Featured Replies

Struggling to find anywhere exactly what oil type my engine should be using.

The owner manual says "ask a specialist garage for the correct engine oil", which is bizarre - can't the manufacturer of the vehicle just tell me!

  • On a previous with a dealer, they put in "Edge Prof LL IV 0W-20".

  • I've just had a service via the RAC today, and they gave me the remaining oil in the tub, and I've just noticed it's "0W-30" and also says "VW 504.00/507.00" specification.

(EDIT: See update below, I think this is the WRONG oil 🤬)

So, I'm assuming one of those two MUST be wrong, but can't find anything anywhere from Skoda to confirm.

Not sure why basics like this are not in the manual.

Anyone know where I can find the info, or know themselves what is right?

Cheers!

Slight update:

I found some Superb workshop manuals someone posted on here, and in those I've found the following:

I believe mine is a MY2021 (registered June 2021).

Scrolling down to 3.9.2 I see:

Mine is a DPCA engine I believe, as my engine number starts with "DPCAxxxxxx"

So, looks like 0W-20 is the correct oil, as per what the dealership used 12 months ago.

And the 0W-30 that RAC put in today is wrong. ☹️

Should I avoid driving the car completely???

As long as it meets vag spec it should be fine as vw use thinner oils for better mpg and 0w 30 will offer better protection at high temperatures compared 0w 20

Thanks.

It meets a VW spec.... 504.00/507.00. But the manual above specifies 508.00.

Do you think I'd be right to demand the RAC to replace it?

The Recommended oil by Skoda / VW Group for the 1.,5 TSI ACT has been VW 508 00 / 509 00 since 2018. 0w 20 FS IV. Simples as that.(To get the WLTP & RDE2 Results needed.) No harm done with the VW 504 00 / 507 00, 0w30 FS III or 5w 30 FS III

0w-30 is the spec for 504/507 which is in mine (the 280) but to add confusion the standard used to refer to 5w-30 and was lowered.

The oil will still lubricate and transfer heat; but I’d drain and replace with all of one type to be on the safe side.

^^^ They went 0w 30 FS III just the same for the WLTP / RDE2. Because the engine needed decent oil and not the P!ss poor 0W 20 FS IV .

It was a complete oil replacement. So 4.3 litres of the 0w-30 stuff went in.

Ah cool, ok, so there's benefits in them being able to sell cars with better emissions etc if they specify that oil. Makes sense. Ok, I'll stop worrying about the 0w-30 that's in there then, cheers.

Here's a interesting posting about using 0w 30 or even 5w 30 offering better protection for 1.5tsi engines compared to 0w 20 oil (See discussion for comments)

Reading that just makes me want to buy an electric car more, or lease a car.

Depressing that such expensive items can be a massive financial disaster if the engine turns out to be duff. Recently learned all about Vauxhall wet belts the hard way.
