Brake upgrade for 1.5 e-TEC

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am considering a brake system upgrade from my stock 288mm front brakes either to a Brembo Max/Extra in stock 288 size or a complete upgrade to the 312mm brakes which the bigger engines have. Has somebody already done such an upgrade? Is it worth for normal daily use, occasionally highway?

Unless your driving it like you stole it or having random track days I reckon the stock brakes will be more than enough. Did think about upgrading on my old 1.9tdi but changed tyres for a better grip and stopping power in wet. Found the standard brakes were excellent but new tyres definitely improved stopping power especially when roads were greasy and wet.

Going up from 288x25mm, there's two choices...either 306x26mm or 312x25mm. Below, I've just looked at the 312x25mm size. It might also be worth looking at 314x30mm from the Kodiaq MK1 (non-standard on the Octavia MK4) as this should still allow for 16" wheels to clear the front brake calipers. 314x30mm are very powerful because they are based on the 340x30mm brakes, eg. same calipers. The 312x25mm front brake discs are the same on both the Octavia MK4 and Kodiaq MK1...therefore it would make sense for the 314x30mm front brake discs to also fit the Octavia MK4.
