Probably one for the likes of @mac11irl here but...

I've been looking at and test driving a 2017 Citigo Colour for my daughter.

It looks to be in decent condition apart from the off scrape of paint in the boot and a couple. It needs a couple of front tyres and two wheels tidying a little but one concern I have is that it almost sounds a little wheezy with an open throttle, as if there is a slight intake leak somewhere but I cant find it if there is. Is that normal?

And is there anything else I should be looking out for - eg what is the cambelt change interval?

I only have experience of the 2013 era 3pot 60bhp mpi engine, and even that’s 5yrs ago already 🙈

I know the newer ones got the 1litre tsi. Which missus mac has in her Arona.

Maybe.

I always described The mpi on a full throttle as a very happy buzz. And it could shift (relatively speaking 🤣) enough to be a fun chuckable little running shoe.

The tsi in the Arona is 115bhp, think it was 90 in the citigo? It’s grand, pokey, but always feels like it’s working a harder than it should need to to push on down the road. I dunno if that makes sense.

the one your looking at could have a small leak, or it could just be the engine sound if your not used to it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks @mac11irl . The one I'm looking at is a 1.0 MPI. I test drive another a week or so ago and just can't remember if that sounded the same but the car pulled well for 60bhp so maybe it's just the way it is. I did sneak a quick DTC check and nothing concerning c. came up.

I also drove it round the block again after I posted and didn't really hear the wheeze so maybe it's my ears...

If we do buy it I'll go on a hunt as my daughter's pretty keen on it... And if it needs a service, cambelt and check over it won't be the end of the world.

There are no 1.0 TSI Citigo,s in Europe, only South America with a bigger fuel tank. So 60 or 75PS MPI,s. It is a VW UP! to get a Turbo.,

Daughter had the vw UP with the 1litre mpi and it was a great little car. Ideal for around town and surprisingly nippy and gave her no real problems apart from a flexi exhaust failing. Check its got a reasonable service history and also have a look on MOT history to see if its failed on anything and if underbody corrosion is mentioned. We were looking for a car for my son a few years back and its amazing the amount of cars that looked good but had failed previously with things like tyres down to canvas, brake pads worn out ,no handbrake, One even had dangerous fault due to subframe loose which I reckon points to a car that;s not been looked after or serviced regularly. We went for a mk1 1.2 fabia with very low miles.

Rust around the fuel filler cap especially inside the wheel arch.

Thanks guys. Yes Facelift version. It's in good nick generally with not much picked up on the MOT history other than a misting rear shock absorber and tyres getting low. Service history is pretty good up until the last year or so when usage has been very low mileage due to the owner being at Uni then heading off to Oz. It's also got no rust around the fuel filler and drives well with no undue noises.

The place I'm getting it from is actually a neighbour's S/H car dealer but I never knew until yesterday. They'll service it sort the tyres, MOT it and sort the shockers if needed.

So we've pulled the trigger and put a deposit down. Will look to thoroughly underseal around the filler flap and sort arch liners when I get my hands on it, and I'm looking for a auto headlight sensor switch, mudflaps, a parcel shelf and a couple of other bits for it...

Check for water in the spare wheel well - may have been solved in the face lift, but on the older ones it was a dodgy seal around the light cluster let water in.

Thanks. The wheel well was dry yesterday but it has been dry recently so I'll keep an eye out for that
