Considering purchasing a used low mileage Monte Carlo 1.5Tsi DSG

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Back after a long period away.

After 12 years with my Octavia VRS Tdi 184 Combi, it's time to change.

I've been looking at the Kamiq and the Scala but find I'm drawn to the Scala a little more.

Before I decide, any real world feedback on the Scala would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I went from a Karoq SportLine to a Scala MC 1.5 DSG about 15 months ago and it’s the best decision I made and have zero regrets.

Other than an occasional creaky binnacle (which I also had with the Karoq) I’m very happy with it. I’d hesitate to say it’s sporty but it’s rapid enough and handles well enough for me.

Been on a few holidays in it, 4-up plus the dog and all the luggage and it handles it admirably, in fact the the kids (17 &18) both reckon it’s more comfy as a rear seat passenger than the Karoq was.

Boot space is good, seats are comfy and apart from the occasional glitch the infotainment system works well (I use CarPlay as I find the native Škoda satnav truly awful). The only complaint from my wife is that the sun visor vanity mirrors don’t have a light but I can live with that.

Is there anything specific info you’re looking for?

Nothing specific, just general feedback really.

I'm looking at a 74 plate one.

I have read elsewhere that the Infotainment system can have issues but apart from that, i haven't found anything that seems to be overly problematic.

It all appeared fine on the test drive.

So far so good for me, as for the infotainment, that’s only a hop and catch and not a regular occurrence, holding the on/off button down for about 10 seconds to reboot it usually solves the issue.

I had a new Scala 1.5 dsg Monte Carlo from 2021 before trading it in for a SEL Karoq in 2025. Had seven Skodas since 2004 and the Scala was my favorite by a country mile, comfortable, economical, spacious and a great looking car. Icant think of anything I didnt like about it, probably get another when I change next time.

There you go...

looks good mate, exactly same model and colour as my 2 year old one to 🙂

I have been fairly happy and trouble free over my 2 years ownership, the only downside for me is its not much fun to drive and I find the 1.5 lacking in torque and just pickup from low down revs. but I think thats probably as I came from owning 2.0 Diesels for past 20 years and my last one was a remap to with 195bhp and 410nm torque.

its a shame the ECU is locked on this one or I would get a remap done.

Yeah, i came from a Tdi 184 Octy but she had to go due to change of job / routine.

I'll get used to it, it's a neat car and i'm happy, nearly mint conditi9n for 2 years old.

So there's no way round tbe locked ECU ?

I took it to a tuner a couple of weeks ago and they said they could either send the ECU to Germany to be unlocked or I can just wait until somebody in the future finds a way to unlock it.

The only other option is to get a tuning box but I’m not really very keen on these as they just trick the ECU.

I will probably just leave it as standard for the time being

I'm not craving additional power but if someone can sort a workround...
