Just out of interest for now.

Requirements:

Practicallity, not needed.

Miles per gallon, not bothered.

Must be fun.

Failry cheap insurance.

My thoughts (after about 5 minutes might I add) Lupo GTi, Clio Sport etc...

Cheers

James.

Older MkIII MR2?
That thought just entered my mind as well actually :rubchin:

Polo GTI! :D

Erm, apart from that rather biased outburst, 200SX? Is there a bias toward FWD/RWD/4WD? Solid roof or limitless headroom?

Steve

Surely you've not got itchy feet?

Can I ask why...?

Theres a Fabia vRS for sale on here for £7k...

How about that Scooby on Piston Heads? :D You could put the change towards insurance ;)

Chris

200sx s14 though gets my vote

Fabia 2.0:D

Clio Sport 172 Cup everytime,, no ABS, no T/C, lightened windows, widened track, hand picked 172 engines (most powerful ones), no sound deadening, front splitter, cup spoiler, no aircon (very rare versions do but that add's more weight), crappy seats (but very light), no spare wheel, cup blue looks brilliant, very very quick and handling out of this world. Can be bought for around £5800 with 30-40k miles and 3 years old.

My brothers weighed in at 1,007kg with no back seats, and with the hillpower induction kit it was pushing 174 bhp which makes approximately 174bhp/ton :D :D :D

Worth every penny IMO, my brother just sold his unfortunately :( to get a Meg 225 Cup in Ultra Blue with Recaro Seat Option :D

You could go for the 100kg heavier full fat 172 which has every concievable extra specced as standard bar sat nav. xenons, cruise, climate, half leather seats etc etc. the spec is very impressive!

The 172 cup does sound tempting I must admit.

Can I ask why...?

Unfortunatley situations change and the MR2 might have to go, I hope it doesnt have to, its everything I've ever wanted from a car :( will work it all out later but just gathering idea's for a cheaper car should it need to.

BMW e34 m5 3.8

360bhp, sub 1k insurance (for me at 25 with 2 accidents in last 5 years)

£6-7.5 k will get you a minter.

had a drive of one at the weekend-the way it pulls in 4th at 140 is unbelievable!

or go to autotrader and set the prices like you say above and see what pops up-try typing in v6 or gti etc in the specs box

He said "must be fun"

I think a Lupo GTI would fit the bill nicely... Seen quite a few for

TBH I would be more than gutted at selling the MR2.The only real replacement would be an MX5 at that money. And there are loads of them.

Stuff these boring tin top warm hatches.Stick with roofless

Older MkIII MR2?

Chris

the older Mk2 Mr2 is not a good car at all, try driving one, not very exciting if you ask me (aftercoming from a new Mr2 it will be a horror to drive.) and not very agile at all. Quickish but v. heavy for a sports car.

mx5 ? bit girly but I suppose you are used to the remarks already.

Hyundia Copen?

You know my thoughts, but I still think a Pug 205 1.6 GTi would suit your current needs perfectly.

MK1 MX5 could be an option, if you must.

If you're seriously contemplating a Lupo GTI, my friend has his up for sale. 51-plate, silver, chipped, coilovers, BBS RMs, sports exhaust. 6k. Great example and has been well looked after.

Details here if you're interested...

But please, get a Polo instead! ;)

Steve

I'd buy a '96 or '97 Jag XJR. One of the old I6s.

Nice and fast, and super comfortable and reliable (I know someone who's got one with over 250,000 miles on it). And you can outrun most things from the lights with it.

Plus you could pick a good one up for 3-4k, leaving plenty of your budget for the massive fuel usage, and the scary insurance numbers.

Nah, I said older MkIII.

The Mk II is not as good to drive, but the turbo ones are much much better than UK spec ones. Also I would not call 1130Kg heavy in modern parlance, about the same as your average hatch, but it is a coupe not a sports car.

Chris

You could've had Velma for 7k seeing as it's you

Lupo gti gets my vote. Tempted my self to chop in the Fabia for a Silver 51 plate for sale locally.

Bags of grins, and cheap to run too.
