In the next couple of weeks, I should be picking up my new (well used

I say scrap him :(

Though I still regret getting rid of my old Audi 90 rather than keeping and fixing it.

Other: You seem to like animals - turn him into an animal house using some bits from B&Q plus whatever the Gypos leave behind after they've finished 'camping' locally. That would also give you a good excuse to get another animal or two of some kind small enough to live in him.

Plus he will also still be there as a monument to his former glory days as a 'faithful' servant.

And he will probably annoy the hell out of the locals in his new guise!

It will be sad, but you may have to scrap him. But be prepared, you will have to pay for someone to scrap him, my local council charge around £100 to remove end of life cars. Very few if any places will take the car and give you some money for him.

I know it's sad to change a car, after you've been so much together. My first car was a banged-up mess, but I felt so sad to change it for another car (some fond memories).

Only way to go forward is to be tough, convert it to whatever cash you can get, and make sure you have a proper goodbye. Maybe keep a part in the new car as a keepsake.

Scrap him, I just got rid of my Golf for the Skoda and was very sad to see him go.

Get him fixed-those Favorits are under rated cars!Get it restored and supercharged!

I learned the hard way on sunday that cheating with another car aint allowed.

Drove an BMW e34 m5, absolute hoot, on way back my car locked up and hit a traffic island, so lying on my back this sunday to replace the sump...

I'll be sure to remind the 320i that i love her, and she aint going anywhere.

why not turn it into a briskoda members car, people can chip in and do little bits to it.

Give him a final place to rest as he's been loyal to you, its the least you can do be takin it to the scrappers

Paint him Pink (emulsion will be fine), mesh up the windows and chuck the rabbit's in there. Just make sure you remove the keys as rabbits have been known to drive angry :)

Fluff

Isn't it your Moms car anyway, so the decision should fall down to her. :D

Keep the car and when finance permits make a track day skoda.

Sorry but the car will cost you to get rid of it, so if you fancy a racing car I'd say it's good. If you were going to drop a GTI engine in there you would be getting a new gear box with that anyway.... Hmmmm i wonder would you manage to get a 1.8T under that thing?

Are there no Skoda breakers yards who would take him? , then he could be stripped to give life to countless other Favorits! Or sell him to someone wanting a project car to restore/repair?

Cracking video emily.

You will forget the car btw.

If it's still got an MOT you should get some money from a breakers yard.

my mate got £50 for his old MK2 Astra the other day, we tried to destroy it with nitrous at santa pod a couple of weekends ago but it just wouldn't die, even after 150 shot nozzles were put in!!

It was so rusty however it had no chance of getting another MOT, I think even the last MOT was a dodgy one!

There was a nice scrap cheap favorit which would have got the engine/gears situation working fine. Then you may have got a couple of hundred for it, or had a good spare runaround.

If you end up paying for scrapping and have room, put it to pasture and declare it off the road.

I read the thread title as "irrational quilt" at first,

I was quite intrigued for a while, as I thought it was a mad duvet story.........:D;)

Sure it's the gearbox and not just the clutch?

I know where you're coming from a bit, given that my last 3 cars are:-

1) Crashed and rolled when I thought I could control a skid and ran out of road into a bank.

2) Broken camshaft and failed timing belt tensioner.

3) Blown head gasket (but I think it was on the way out before I bought the car for burger all money).

And I still miss (1) and (2). (3) was a Renault and a shed though.

strange!!! i read it as that as well!

I hate changing cars - yeah I love the new motor, but I hate seeing the previous one leave...

...wish I had loads of money and a nice warehouse to store then in!!!

Anyway, if the shell of the Fav is still good, then give it back some youth by converting it into a race car - that is, if you feel the car would like that! (and yes, cars do have feelings!! I had one that cried when it realised I was selling it!! :-o)

Emily, I know exactly what you're going through. Remember my 'goodbye Velma' thread? I say keep him if you have the space, until you are sure what you want to do.

I am off to see Velma tonight, well actually I'm going to see her owners but I will pop my head around the garage door and see how she's doing.

I had a really rough time yesterday with Vlad. I have been looking after some kids for a friend and they were in the back trying to tear each other's heads off. We hit traffic and first and second gear totally stopped happening. The only way to get into first was to turn him off then put in gear and start with the clutch depressed. I was having to pull away in 3rd, car juddering and shaking. Total nightmare. I only just got him home, and I am not going to drive him anymore.

I am loving some of the suggests as alternative uses for a skoda. I think I am going to be a sentimental fool and keep him until such time as I can fix him up and fun two.

Stupid I know, but hey if I can't make impractical choices now, when can I?

I was relieved to see that Velma was still there last night. I was asked, are you thinking about moving soon? I think we came to an unspoken agreement that Velma would once again be mine when we have more space to keep her

Go with your heart Emily :D

Go with your heart Emily :D

My heart says keep him. I have plenty of space, and one day won

Either clutch (reasonably quick and easy by a local garage rather than a dealership) or 1st/2nd layshaft (exchange or rebuild gearbox; either way not cheap).
