Wonder if it still doesnt start though?

Chap at work has the non-Prodrive RX8 and is regretting buying it. Despite it's on paper stats, he has trouble keeping up with Audi TT's

Chris

Its not so much the performance as the having to check the oil level every other fill-up that would get to me!!!

that car does not look much different to the regular Rx8. how much more deos it cost?

only 600 being built I heard?

I drove a regaulr 238bhp version when they first came out when I was 19yrs old and wow do they like being revved! I think the red line was 9000rpm , it sounded amazing! and it shifted.

I was amazed at how much rear leg room there was! definitly more than a BM 3 series. And the stereo system was a BOSE kit which was awsome too!

He's obviously a big puff and doesn't realise that the red line is at 9K instead of 6K!:D

cough, a re-mapped Octavia could well be significantly quicker in a straight line than some RX8s, cough.

The hassle and fuel bills of owning one make them quite unappealing. I'd prefer a 350Z.

It does look different in the metal. I went to see one today and the low stance, anthracite wheels, spoiler and grille mesh make it look alot meaner. it's limited to 800 models in grey or black. There's no extra power to the engine, just suspension tweaks really and loads of extra kit for just under

For much less money, I could get a second-hand Boxster and throw dosh at it or even a decent souped-up Supra or Skyline instead of one of those!

God! I'm getting all defensive now. Anyway, a remapped Octavia would still look like a taxi in a straight line with an RX8. An RX8 would be significantly quicker round the bendy bits which is where it counts, due to lower centre of gravity, 50:50 weight distribution and LSD.

The 350Z has worse fuel economy than RX8, it has 2 seats less and the boot isn't really there.

Second hand cars cost less than new cars. And your point is....?:D

Have you mistaken this for a Mazda enthusiasts site? :sofahide: ;)

Do like the look of that, love the wheels. My £26k wouldn't be sent in the direction of the Mazda dealer though, I'd be off to Mr Nissan as well....

Steve

Running costs and all the other stuff that don't exist in dreams a side...

I'd have the RX8 PZ... there's just something about the look of them I like, even more so the ones breathed on by Prodrive...

After years of agonising over which fast car is best for me, I think I have found The One. There's no way you can fit Mrs P's wheelchair int back of a 350Z, S2K, MX5, Mr. 2, or even a (secdond hand) Boxster.

I went to look at the RX8 when it first came out and loved it. It was only because a few unhappy customers complained about the oil and the fuel that I never jumped in.

IMO it's better looking than the 350Z and far more practical. It might not have the power to blow you away, but it depends how you drive it...

Case closed!:D

My mate bought a RX8 this year, and loves it apart from the 13mpg he gets out of it.

From working in a Mazda dealership for a few years I can honestly say I wouldnt have one..lol

Still kept the techs busy, about the only Mazda that cme in on the back of a AA wagon.

My mate bought one at the end of December last year, chopped it in 1 month later for a MK4 Golf R32, couldn't handle 16mpg (the best he got).

"A 1.3 engine that goes like a 2.6 and drinks like a 3.9"...I'd still have one though if I could afford the running costs...

Rob.

I have had the pleasure of driving a PZ - and I absolutely fell in love with it.

Oil and fuel consumption are diabolical... but 9krpm! HE HE!!!! THe PZ handles like an absolute dream - not a hint of understeer at all. The interior is seriously classy, and the Bose stereo sounds great!

But £26k...? I'm not sure I could part with that much money for one either. If it was £20k, thats a different matter!

Tbh the engine isnt explosive enoguh...

if a piston engine goes bang... you know about it

but this.. ive seen a vid of a RX7 on a dyno that went pop... just revved.... went "ching" as the rotor tip broke" and then it stopped... no drama, no explosions.. pretty boring really :(

 Always top of the list of buying criteria...

I can assure you that that is not true and has been demonstrated more than once. I'm not sure what the different models look like though.

By all accounts, fuel economy is horrendous.

If I wanted a sports coupé, I wouldn't get an RX8.

Very true...

Er...doh! :D

Rob.

aahhhh, that must be what I saw on the way to work the other day then..? the anthracite wheels looked so good, the whole car did actually :)
