Remove remap or leave it?

Featured Replies

As I'm sure you all know, our Octavia has a Jabba custom map on it. Given SWMBO doesnt ever go over 60mph and only overtakes horses and cyclists, it seems a bit pointless now.

I know it would feel slow if the remap was removed but would we see a fuel saving?

How does the 150bhp elegance MPG compare to the VRS? WHilst I dont think there would be a saving if I had a VRS there could be something to be saved on my car, no?

I think the mpg will be the same. :) And think how safe it is to be overtaking much quicker, reducing the risk of hitting some oncoming. Thats the way I like to think of it anyway. :o

I wonder if rather than taking it off, Jabba could tweak it a bit to give a mild manner to it, reducing engine stresses, etc?

I found with the remap, my old octavia used less fuel than with the skoda map.

"tweaking" is £400+.

Removal is £40 ;)

I've never been convinced that a remapped car has improved economy. Just need to find some book figures for the car and see if there is a difference between the elegance and the vrs.

Or you hit the chap you didn't see much faster and harder ;)

I don't think removing the remap will really buy you anything and are you going to make back the cost of driving to Jabba to get it done? :D May help on the insurance though :D

Fuel wise I doubt it will make much difference...as already has been said.

Cost to you.....getting to Jabba and removal of map.

Benefit.....reduced insurance premium.

Probably the costs for/against balance out and with no fuel saving.....leave it as is.

there's good reason why it should be better if the ignition timing map is optimised for cruise conditions, (Fuelling map should make no odds as it will be under lambda control in those conditions. ) The benefits would be more with a custom map optimised for the particular engine, than for a generic map which inevitably needs to be a bit more conservative.

Obviously this is only really relevant under cruise conditions, if the increased performance is being utilised this will clearly affect economy :)

I'm in the Octavia today and managed 41.4 MPG on the way to work. I think SWMBO needs some driving lessons

I'd recommend Sharkrider for the lessons! Louise averaged 58.8mpg this morning on the way to work in the Ibiza which is considerably better than I ever manage when driving it.
