60 bhp gain from remap??

Featured Replies

hi all hope you well!

time has come, once back from honey moon am getting car remaped ( cant wait )

have taken time to have a look at dfferent companies most offer around 170-180bhp with 160 in take and filter but have noticed one company states 195 bhp with for mentioned mods.

any idea why as have spoken to some tunners and they think that is un realistic??

any comments welcome as been saving for a while now (on top of wedding funds) just want to make sure i get a decent map.

cheers all take care

It's all down to the accuracy (or not!) of the rolling road the tuners use to measure it ;) Imho, 170-180bhp is about right :D

cheers:thumbup: uuuummm now do i go for one with higher bhp on their site and hope decent R.Road gives slightly lower output, or one that cliams 170-180 r.road it and it comes back lower, Can never be sure i suppose as all there to sell you a product at the end of the day.

With an aftermarket exhaust, as well as the 160 intake, I've heard that 200bhp can be achieved;)

Forget the peak power claims - find some dyno prints from the various tuner and look which one has the biggest area (ie the most power across the whole rev range). This will make it much more driveable :D

I quite like the look of Custom Code but everyone you talk to will have their favourites :D

Chris

Jabba are pretty good at getting between 180 and 185 BHP , they also tend to knock the torque down a bit to protect the clutch (good thing) , a mate of mine had his PD130 VW Bora done by them and it is a rocket in every gear upto silly speeds

No need to worry about max power results, but go somewhere where you can get a before RR and an after RR figure, as ultimately its the gain in power which says more about the map, not the peak power. :)

Where are you based Adam? Basically there are a good pocket of tuners that are 'friends' of briskodas, and rather than going with power outputs i would go with reputation. JMTPW tho ;)

As long as they do a before and after on the same rolling road, you will get an idea of the gain.

Mine was 143 std and 193 after, so that 50 bhp increase. Maybe the % gain is more important 35% increase in bhp.

It's about the area under the lines not the peaks.

My choice would be Jabba, Revo or possibly Impossible, in that order. North of the border I'd use STAR. I wouldn't go to Custom Code for various reasons, but that is my perogative and it is my money.

From personal experience I would happily go with Custom-Code or Revo, however I wouldn't have Jabba or Amd. I've also heard many personal recommendations for Forge Motorsports Diesel remaps (not heard of anyone with a petrol remap from them). I also wouldn't go with APR due to personal experience with the UK dealer. Having said all that there are people out there with maps from the companies I wouldn't use that are very happy so all it proves is that there's good and bad reports for most if not all companies.

I think the most important thing is to find someone reasonably local that has personal recommendations by a member of this forum or preferably someone you know and trust.

Views on Celtic tuning?

Check out Awesome GTi's website. They have results from there RR days on it so check out the graphs. dont think they've had a PD130 with more than 175bhp.

But they also haven't had a standard PD130 that puts out more than 130bhp ;)

Hi,

I wouldn't go over around 150 bhp without a front mounted intercooler.

On a hot day you will go into limp mode and cause undue duress to the engine.

John

never had limp mod as this is caused by overboosting. If I remember right 0.3bar above requested sends the ecu into limp mode. Heatsoak just reduces boost and fueling. I've never managed to log my car withour it reducing boost/fueling. So woundnt go past 130 with out a fmic.

Mine has approx 200bhp with standard intercooler and has NEVER gone into limp mode, it only show a slight loss in performance when the weather is very hot, and it does get driven briskly most of the time.

Having said that, the oil gets changed frequently, and I always let it stand for a few minutes idling before turning it off.

cheers for replies so many different oppinions lol

have been looking dare i say it tdisport and seat forums and have heard good things about chipboost and celtic as well but they come out to you so no rolling road, am in brum so aldon automotive is close to me they have revo connection and beleive they offer 5 hr trial period may be worth poppin down there to test out thier map, but do like the idea of someone coming out to you to do it, and could get it rollin roaded at local place

I'm not sure Revo can do the trial on a diesel - I think that's only for the petrol's.... could be wrong though so definitely worth checking :D

different ECU capability.

Although the diesel ECU has the ability to store multiple maps.

No, but some of us got damned close....:P

Mind you, my insurer throws my policy in the trash at 180, so maybe it's just as well I use the Awesome RR figures and not the tuner's......(for historical record, they recorded 197bhp, blowing the 173 from Awesome's RR day out of the water.......)
