Strange effects of cone filter

Featured Replies

I put a universal cone air filter on my Jabba'd Octy today. Its a universal item with integral heat shield. I have left the original cold air intake in place. The mouth of the cold air feed is touching the inlet to the heat shield

There is now a deep growl from up front which sounds great:thumbup: . However, there are a few things that are puzzling me:confused:

  1. If I am in 2nd or 3rd gear and I accelerate gradually, there is no induction noise until the revs pass 3000 rpm
  2. Under hard acceleration, the induction roar stops after about 4500 rpm and it sounds as if the original air box is in place

When I had this filter on my 2.3SRi Accord, the induction roar remained all the way to the redline under hard acceleration. So why is it different now?

In terms of performance, its hard to say. The throttle response appears to be quicker but thats just a feeling.

Has any of you had a similar experience with your induction kits? Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Your insights will be much appreciated

Its because of the turbo engine, when the turbo spools up it needs more air this nice sound. However as the revs increase the amount of air needed doesnt really change that much as the turbo is already pulling in all it needs the noise will quieten down.
