What/where are the correct tyre pressures?

Featured Replies

sorted it! I've put 32 in front and 30 in back, (the backs were 28)

Hope this is not too much. this was checked on the guage at the garage and on a handheld digital one.

When I say, I've sorted it, I mean hubby did:D

Just to add to the apparent confusion, I've noticed that there can be a significant difference in the pressure indicated between different pressure gauges. Garages pressure gauges aren't necessarily very accurate and from my experience neither are the pocket digital type gauges.

If you think you've correctly inflated a tyre to the recommended pressure and yet the tyre still looks a little flat then perhaps the gauge is at fault. The only way I've found to assume a reasonably accurate reading is by taking the average from several different gauges. Then for future usage I use the gauge that gave the closest to the average value. Deviation on my gauges is as high as

My tyre pressure gauge hasnt got Psi on it , so as such I havent used it for at least 7 or 8 years , I now only use BAR or KPA , my (1.4 8V..2000 MY , pressure readings on fuel flap in KPa only) tyres are 2.2BAR front (220KPa) and 2.0Bar rear (200KPa) ... I didnt think you could still buy pressure gauges that read in psi? and the ones at garages are nearly always miles out , thats why I carry my pressure gauge in the glovebox.

Just done a quick conversion using the data in the Fabia Haynes manuel, then checking and converting from my sticker on the fuel flap door (only printed in kpa & bar)

My car is the 1.9 TDI Elegance, with the 15" Band Alloy wheels (6J X 15") with 195/50 R15 Uniroyal rubber on them. (optional genuine skoda wheels)

Using the terminlogy as printed on the flap label................

3 Persons with 1 suitcase FRONT TYRE REAR TYRE

230 kpa/ 2.3 bar/ 33.35 psi 210 kpa/ 2.1 bar/ 30.45 psi

5 Persons with 3 suitcases FRONT TYRE REAR TYRE

250 kpa/ 2.5 bar/ 36.25 psi 280 kpa/ 2.8 bar/ 40.6 psi

Hope this helps, of course round up the psi figures unless you have a very accurate pressure gauge !!!!!

I checked tyre pressure today for first time (picked it up Tuesday). Was surprised to find 1 of the tyres was at 21PSI. So either the dealers didn't check, or i've got a puncture (won't be happy).

Anyway set them at 32 front & 30 rear.

Don't worry about tweaking them from day to day. Just use the figures from the filler cap (just divide by 100 and use bar on the machine), and use the higher values when you go on holiday with the car full of stuff.

If you were a brisk driver you might like to have a play and work out your tyre pressures using the Magic Shoe Polish trick :D

My 06 fabia has the optional 16'' alloys on with 205 tyres..... i think they came when the car was new as an option by the first owner, would the fuel filler cap have the pressures for what the car was designed to have fitted or what is actually on the car ??

Thats a good question! Are the alloys/tyres the same size as the vRS? ie 205/45s? If this is so , then I think the pressures from a vRS would suit your car?

Edited to say: I noticed on another thread you have a TDi , so the weight over the front end should be pretty much the same as a vRS , so , if the tyres are the same size , a vRS pressure set up front and rear should be a good starting point for your car!

Yes they are, and good point, i will find out the pressures for the VRS, Cheers.

I run a Fabia vRS as a driving school car and as a result check pressures two or three times a week with pupils. I have stuck religiously to the recommended pressures, but looked here cos my front tyres are bald on inner and outer edges at 12000m, typical of a tyre running under pressure.

220kPa = 2.2bar (rears according to filler flap)

230kPa = 2.3bar (fronts ditto)

x14.7 to convert to psi gives 32.34 front, 33.81psi rear. I have run 32/34.

Having worked in the industry, I know that tyre manufacturers have a recommended pressure for each tyre model according to the weight it carries. This pressure will give the best contact patch to prevent uneven wear as described above.

Can't find the figures for the Fabia vRS other than total weight of 1315kg but no distribution.

Newbury Skoda dealer says the wear pattern is because "it's a powerful front-wheel-drive car. What do you expect?" I expect tyres that are run at the correct pressure to wear evenly provided the geometry is correct.

I believe the recommended tyre pressures are incorrect, and will be asking Skoda for clarification.

Any suggestions on best pressures for wear/grip?

Your converted figures are back to front - there should be more pressure in the front tyres. FWIW I run 35F/33R with no problems.

Ta for that. You're right. I meant 34 front, 32 rear. Also forgot to mention that there is still 7mm of tread on the central section of the front tyres.

I hope the tyre pressure are corrected on the Fabia VRS 2! the ones on the fabia VRS are clearly far too low so I set mine to 34f \ 32r

3 different values should be quoted. unladen, laden and brisk driving :D

I found 36 psi in the fronts if you like to enjoy the car and you use the continentals. The Bridgstonne Turanzas I ran at 34 up front. My Toyo 888's i run at 30.

I found the sticky thread at the very top of this forum perfect with all the relevant answers :-)

Found this website for converting tyre pressures in Bar to PSi

>:: World Wide Metric ::<

My Fabia estate works out as near enough 32 psi back and front

My 1.4 16V Comfort has 14" wheels, and the pressures for this are 2.2 bar front and 2.0 bar rear. This is equal to 32 PSI front, and 30 PSI rear.

Don't really see the problem with using bar anyway, as all footpumps/guages I've used give readings in bar and PSI anyway.

Fuel filler cap has a table for different rim/tyre sizes and different loads (listed in Bar).
