Did anyone mention MPG? No thought not. Thats the ONE reason only to me to get the vRS 170PD. Torque and mid range pull apart. End of !

I would have to test drive both cars before making a decision. But having said that I do like performance diesels. I would of thought the petrol vRS will be considerably quicker than the diesel version. 200BHP against 170.

I think the drivingpleasure is better in the petrolvRS vs diesel, in the diesel its stop at 4-4500rpm compared to the petrols 6500-7000, but thats only my personally opinion

But the power will start lower in the diesel - depends if you like revving it. The petrol is quicker on paper though. Would the petrol engine be lighter and hence lead to a better balanced car, or is it much of a muchness?

That video's real, as well!!! :D

And the 'vette driver looks a little bit like GAFF, especially with the finger rammed up the nose :D:rofl::D

I was talking to my dealer last week and he said that the diesel version of the vRS is having a big impact on the sales of the petrol version. The main reasons seem to be, percieved residuals on the diesel being better, better economy an d much cheaper road tax.

Its not that simple..

The fabia vRS will keep with the old 180bhp octy to about 100mph

theres nothing between a remapped 165bhp fabia and a the 200bhp octy..

gear ratios will play a big part too... i hope the octy tdi vRS has long ratios like my fabia does.. makes cruising more relaxed and id happily sacrifice a bit of performace for it

Really?

when I come to change my Octy.... which won't be for a year or so yet, then I'll be looking at the diesel vRS... but I'll also be looking at the Sport ;)

either would be a good step up from my 90bhp Ambiente :D but I'll have to drive em to see if the vRS is worth the extra!

not voted, sorry ;)

Hmmm well Skoda have pretty much just lost a customer.

Completely sh*te dealer network! It really helps when they promise you a test drive then start comming up with quite frankly lame excuses as to why it isn't available.

I cancelled a meeting and took 2 hours off work to go for a test drive, after the dealers assuarnces that they would definately have one in on thursday, definately friday.

What really gets me is i know others on here have driven the car.

So thanks skoda, you just lost me time and money and I didn't get a test drive.

It's a shame i was a definate fan of a derv vRS and pretty much had my money ready to buy one.

I really hate the level of service from skoda dealers, it's a joke, and i'm sufficiently p*ssed off at the moment that I might actually give up on even looking at another skoda from any source all together.

Thats a pi$$er - was it a dealership I frequent?

Yeah , I think it was Stu, certainly one right by your place.

I'm actually really ****ed off with them for it. If it hadn't been for my fathers focus throwing the wobbly discussed elsewhere I'd have been up the ford dealer to get a Focus 2.0TDCI this weekend.

As it is i'll bode my time, but if they waste my time like that again skoda can forget me ever buying another one.

I take the opinion that if they are this cr*p when they are trying to get your money, i dread to think how bad they will be once they have it. The ford and citroen dealers are a complete contrast and very very helpful.

EDIT: From your sig can I take it that you have collected your new car and that your liking it already :)

I'm surprised but then Grant has now left and the remaining staff aren't the kind I'd like to deal with.

Thankfully I'm able to deal direct with the dealer principle - would you like me to have a word?

I know I keep harping on about this but the petrol vRS engine drives incredibly like a diesel low down the rev range (very torquey) but also has all that power at the top end. My last car was a 2.2 dci Laguna (150bhp) so I understand all this low down pulling power stuff, the petrol vRS really has to be driven to be believed.

I know that the diesel will hold it's value better, be cheaper to run etc but sometimes life is about having a little fun...that's what the petrol car is about. At the end of the day the diesel will sound like a taxi, the fuel stinks and it most definitely will not be as fast as the petrol...although no doubt over the coming months the new owners of the diesel vRS will come on here and post that it is.

Just my thoughts.

Dan,

it seems like you're finding the PD vRS hard to swallow  LOL. You have to remember that some people prefer diesel cars, just like you prefer your petrol vRS. I test drove the petrol vRS but didn't like it. And that's not really fun, is it? Personally, I'm looking at the PD vRS because of the way it drives, nothing more. I had to get rid of my Fabia vRS because it was too small  . This is just what I was after at the time..

I've heard quite a few people say this, but from the figures at What Car, the petrol VRS only has as much torque as the Fabia 1.4 TDI. Certainly no comparison with either 2.0 TDI.

I don't understand why petrol owners are always so defensive.

Couldnt agree more:D

I reckon the tdi vrs will outsell the petrol by at least two to one..........

Diesels are also generally cheaper to insure. This could be partly due to the fact that they don't seem to catch fire as readily!

Couldnt agree more:D

Thankyou!...so glad to know I am not alone.
