Anyway.......

Anyone else had a test drive lately?

I've heard quite a few people say this' date=' but from the figures at What Car, the petrol VRS only has as much torque as the Fabia 1.4 TDI. Certainly no comparison with either 2.0 TDI.

I don't understand why petrol owners are always so defensive.[/quote']

The figure in WhatCar's wrong for the vRS. Try looking at the stats for tha Audi A4 Saloon 2.0T FSI S Line...

The petrol vRS develops 280nM of torque at about 5000 RPM, which is pretty impressive for a petrol. The head-to-head test for the Octy vRS Estate vs Altea FR TDI 170 showed that the Octy had better in-gear acceleration and generally performed much better in any gear than the Altea, despite an on-paper torque deficit.

Hurray! the petrol lovers are fighting back:)

Well I've driven both and the petrol suits my needs.

I do around 10k miles per year so ok it'll cost me more in fuel and road tax but I'm not shelling out the premium for the oil burner engine.

Having owned a PD for the last 18 months I can say that I am looking forward to owning a petrol again. The PD is great in many ways and for economy you can't beat it but you have to live with the lower rev range and little bit extra noise.

That said the vRS PD is very smooth and infinitely better than the PD130.

As for insurance - Would it surprise some of you to learn that I am insuring my Octy for pretty much the same as the Fabia was last year. Get yourself a quote before you discount it on that basis.

It's each to your own and horses for courses.

I've driven Audi A3's with both the 2.0TFSI and 170ps TDI engines and have to say that although the petrols got character and is a damn fine engine (as has previously been mentioned) I always had a bigger smile on my face driving the diesel:D

I'd be happy owning either but if you made me choose I'd go with the diesel for what it's worth:thumbup:

Ah - I checked the Golf GTi too, and it appears you're right. My apologies. More than the 1.9TDI but less than the 2.0TDI.

It’s got nothing to do with this thread, but I just felt I had to say that I think Sporky McGuffin is a fabulous name. I might call a car that one day. Luv it:thumbup:

Why thank you. :)

What are they fighting back against, Dan?

I'm surprised but then Grant has now left and the remaining staff aren't the kind I'd like to deal with.

Thankfully I'm able to deal direct with the dealer principle - would you like me to have a word?

A quite nudge that their staff are helping them to loose potential customers would be apprecaited next time you are around there, but don't put yourself out. :)

Might give you a bell now things have settled down at work and ask you to have a look at something on VAG-COM for me too :)

No problem mate.

I was in Fish Bros, Swindon yesterday (where they have a VRS diesel demon 'strator)). Chap there said that he expected this car eventually to have a DSG with paddles and a leather upholstery option. I'd buy one.

DSG with paddles?

The VRS cars I have seen had part leather as standard.

I tried to settle the diesel v petrol argument once and for all earlier this week by combining the two.

But .... sad to report that the TDi doesn't run too good on petrol!

Whooooops.

Only someone from Chorley could do that!

Its not that simple..

The fabia vRS will keep with the old 180bhp octy to about 100mph

theres nothing between a remapped 165bhp fabia and a the 200bhp octy..

gear ratios will play a big part too... i hope the octy tdi vRS has long ratios like my fabia does.. makes cruising more relaxed and id happily sacrifice a bit of performace for it

I thought Goochies / Bengies airfield session dictated otherwise?

So, now that all the speculation is over, is anyone actually going to buy the new vRS TDi?[/font']

In this vRS petrol -v- diesel debate, does anyone yet know the figures for the TDI for weight and CO2 emissions? The figures for the petrol version are:

Kerb Weight - 1400kg

Total Weight - 1900kg

CO2 - 187g/km

Perhaps one of the new TDI owners could peek in their handbooks so we can deermine just how 'nose heavy' the TDI is and work out tax implications (company car users that is)...

From the Skoda sales book the bits are:

TFSI (200bhp) vs TDI (PD170)

1470kg(3240lbs) vs 1500kg(3306lbs) - Kerb weight

1940kgs vs 1970kgs - total weight

75kg vs 75kg - Nose weight (max)

190 g/km vs 157g/km - CO2 (note the PD140 is only 154g/km)

Fuel Consumption:

TFSI = 25.9/45.6/35.8 Urban/Extra Urban/Combined

TDI = 36.2/61.4/48.7 Urban/Extra Urban/Combined

149 vs 140 MPH - Max speed

7.5s vs 8.6s - 0-62MPH times

5100-6000rpm vs 4200rpm - Max power @ RPM

280@1800 vs 350@1800 - Max torque@rpm

HTH

I guess that should read TDI torque of 350?

oh you spotted it already. Doh

Yeah i noticed the typos (well 2 anyway) and fixed them :)

  • 1 month later...

I did buy the first, or so I believe delivered on 4th September, super car, love the diesel, the 0-62 time for the VRs TDi saloon is 8.2 seconds. Goes like stink.

Cheers Dibbley
