So, now that all the speculation is over, is anyone actually going to buy the new vRS TDi?

Had it been out a few months back I'd have serious considered it instead of my PD140 Elegance.

I won't be changing again for another three years or so , but it would be on my list of possibilites for then

It could be our second car, Mr P has always been a TDI man and the first thing he said when I showed him the Octy vrs is 'Do they do a diesel one?'

I can certainly see the benefits of performance diesel cars but I would rather have my petrol VRs.

Performance-wise I think there would be little in it although the petrol would have the edge I think.

The diesel would have excellent low down and mid range torgue but probably fall away higher up the rev range. The real benefit of the 2.0T engine is that the peak torque comes in very early and remains through the full range.

The problem I have always had with performance diesels is that whilst they give the feeling of hard acceleration due to the high torque if you actually look at the speedo they're not as fast as they actually feel.

Another thing I didn't like about the VAG PD 130 and 150 engines was that they felt very agricultural, - you could feel diesel vibration through the steering, the pedals and the gear lever. I recently tested the Volvo S60 D5 185 bhp and that was a different story, - so much more refined and that was genuinely quick (on a par with the T5). I really hope the new VAG PD170 diesel is more like that. I haven't driven the VAG PD140 yet but I believe this is also more refined so I think the 170 should be to.

I agree, can't justify changing mine at 18 months old and 38K on the clock. SWMBO would kill me.

I'll take one for a drive and if the price is right i wouldn't say no. If the price isn't right though they can forget it.

Probably a little too pricey for me and I don't like buying cars brand new. If they had brought it out last year and there were a few 1 year olds about I would definitely consider it.

Can't vote

Yes I want an estate now but I will pick one up second hand later on when they are cheaper.

If they are any good they will outsell the petrol

I ruled it out after doing some research on SEAT and VW similarly equiped cars. PD140 is still considered the best buy.

If you want a vRS and don't want petrol then fine, go for it but if you are just looking for a reasonably quick oil burner the 140 Sport would be the better option I think.

The 140 elegance with the sports suspension would be my preference.

Much higher spec than the sport for a similar price

Shame that they had no info 3m ago as i also would have seriously thought about it, by the time i change the 140 the vrs diesel will probably seem feeble!!

No

As for choosing the Sport instead does that have the same front and rear bumpers as the vRS? The road prescence of the vRS comes from its unique look, I think it looks almost like a separate model to the non-vRS Octavias.

I agree!

PD140 Sport for me with a remap and a few grand still in the bank

No. I've read reports on the engine in the SEAT that don't exactly sing its praises.

The 140bhp is £17,390 and the 170bhp is £18,370. That's not even a grand. And after a remap there'll be less differance.

Last time I looked, the Sport was going for around £16k.... From what I've read once you've got a VRS with a few options your pushing £20k

Haven't done any in depth analysis, but if what you say is the case then I retract my statement.... At the end of the day be a good 18 months - 2 years before I'm even crunching the numbers on this issue

In two years time when my current lease is up it could be on my list as a possibility. In two years time it'll be old hat though and there will be more interesting stuff out I think.

These are the OTR prices from Skoda UK. I'm sure they can both be picked up cheaper. The vRS is on a site for £15,995.

The vRS is just a remapped PD 140 anyway isnt it?

Or is that just balls?

Balls

Edit: Different Injectors and I think......... a larger Turbo + a bit more

Piezo electric injectors are the most significant difference on the 170.

The vRs is miles behind an elegance in terms of spec and it'll cost a bomb to equal it.

Keep fit rear windows? didn't know you could get those any more :P
