Just like a "My First Allroad" :)

Don't know if we'll get it in the UK but this should be capable of a bit more rough stuff that the current 4x4.

Amazing how small 17in wheels look on it!

One day (sooner than I thought) we will live in a world where all cars are identical..... Every major car brand will produce identical sector models to their rivals and the fact a car is good, bad or average will be insignificant....... those who will sucseed will be those who cough up the bucks for the best marketing exec's..... engineering, performance, craftsmanship will be a thing of the past..........

Hmm, interesting post!

Reminds me of the current state of music and television too come to think of it.

Bl**dy commercialism!

I want one now

Yep quite like that, might even be interested in test driving one if we ever see them over here in the future.

But why? Haven't we been there before with Volvo, Audi and - pause - Rover? Jack the suspension up, put a bit of plastic on the wheelarches - how cynical can you get?

Exactly.......... why don't Skoda just stick to what they have been doing best VRS's and quality family hatchbacks at a fraction of the price of rivals...

Its a bit like Merc attempting to produce a car for all sectors.. the price they paid: stuffing up the thing they did best, producing quality exec saloon cars...

something they are only getting back on track with after 6+ years of being hammered in JD Power esq surveys.................

im sure the black cladding is for ease of cleaning and minimal worries to scuffing the body work..however putting it in the same class as supermini 4x4's AND fake ones - Rover you must be kidding!!! the Rover wasnt even 4x4 same as the polo dune, now there the cars you should be picking at not the volvo/audi allroads there is a market out there for them - and we all know that this new rival will be alot cheaper than current models out there aswell as probrably being as capable as the bigger boys.

i've also read alot of people wanting the 2.0fsi/tdi in the 4x4 and here it is! :) would be great for towing horseboxes/little speed boats etc for active people who dont want a pick up but can have a refined estate instead? maybe...

That looks cool, it looks as big as a jeep in the 2nd pic.

And people with boats, horses etc... have always been happy with Volvo's, Landrovers etc..... are they honestley going to think "Wow.. Skoda... the answer to all my prayres !!!!!".... I doubt it, if you can aford to tow boats and horses then a saving of a couple of grand over a Volvo ain't going to make a difference...

Back to my point around marketing etc... These days you are sold a "wana be lifestyle" not a car

I really like it! :) I will be looking for a replacement for my Freelander next year. Although I don't go off-road I do need four wheel drive for the bad winters we get up here in the Highlands.

I do want something that looks a little different and if that means a "lifestyle" estate then that's fine. I think that this would sell well if introduced over here, not maybe to the people that can afford Audi and Volvo but to those like myself who no longer/don't want an SUV sized vehicle.

You're thinking solely in terms of the UK there though. This car will probably go down very well in parts of Eastern Europe with a lot of very rough terrain, also where there aren't so many badge snobs

I completey agree that this is a 'lifestyle' car and a car that doesn't even remotely fit my lifestyle but I still love it and want one. I can always change my lifestyle:D .

It would be interesting to see how many Allroad / Volvo owners actually have a lifestyle to truely warrant them? I'm sure it's the same situation as the SUV / Chelsea tractor debate.

I was all set to get an Octy II 4x4 2.0Tdi until I saw these pictures. I'm gonna hold on now and see if the Scout is produced and if it makes it to this country.

It will be produced, it's not just a concept car. Deliveries from the first 1/4 of next year. Not sure if we'll get it in the UK although Skoda UK did send out the press release too.

That does sound encouraging, fingers crossed it makes it to these shores.

Very nice - I'd have one if my lifestyle changed.

Or would I just get a used Volvo/Audi equivilent?

Is it just me or does it look suspisciously like a Porsche Cayenne from the back??

Could be that I need to change my contact lenses!!

Octavia Scout..... Favoured vehicle of the Russion Mafia

Expect to see parked outside Stamford Bridge very soon

Actually they probably haven't. They've driven big offroaders and teh like becasue thats' all that wil do the job. Most active country types need something that's got decent traction and ground clearance. A proper 4x4 is overkill for most of this, hence why the Audi Allroad and the Volvo XC70 have sold fairly well in the country but have poor overall sales figures.

I run an estate management company, so my octavia spends 90% of its time hacking down back lanes from one farm to another and it just can't cope like i expected it would. The ground clearance and lack of traction are a real problem (especially with the 2.0tdi). The regular 4x4 would cope with most of it, but this scout thingy seems to be the ideal. It's a baby allroad, lighter and more nimble and above all cheaper. It's a shame they didn't announce it earler as we've just bought four 2 year old ex-fleet allroads and my octy is going to be replaced by a last model range rover in the next few weeks. 5 consecutive registration Octavias would look rather fancy in the carpark.

I like this car and can see it being adopted by the country types who usually buy Subaru.

There's also those who have SUV guilt who need the practicality of a 4x4, but don't want whale hugging greenpeace types selotaping themselves to the front of their Nissan Xtrails.

Why should Skoda stick to the same formula? They might be good at vRS's, but they could be even better at doing summat else. How do you know what you're good at unless you have a go?

As me grandad used to say "Shy Bairns Get Nowt."

I go in the mondial de l'automobile (in paris) with my friend (he has a Fabia vRS) between 30 september/15 October, i would take a pics  :P

Program :

Roomster

Octavia vRS TFSI 200 and TDI 170

Fabia vRS...

And Octavia Scout :P

Probably : New Fabia, Superb face life
