Corporate WI-FI

Featured Replies

Hello (again) lol

This time ive been tasked with implimenting a new corporate WIFI system for our three head offices.

What i would like to know is what kind of configuration other people use in their companys.. is MAC filtering used alot?

I see that preffered networks can be defined with group policy, but it does not deploy SSIDs by group policy.. what are the alternatives to WEP?

Also is there a prefrence to which client to use... the intel one or the intergrated one in XP-sp2?

*any* help would be appreciated. :)

We were advised against it for security reasons, especially because our office is located close to residentiial properties.

What size area are you plannign on covering , and how many users are you supporting?

MAC address filtering isn't much use , it's easy to spoof that.

It is relatively easy to configure decent security on a WLAN as long as you are using "proper" kit and not something bought from PC World.

We typically use WPA and WPA2 for encryption which is vastly more secure than WEP (totally insecure) , and then for authentication use EAP-TLS which involves digital certifiates and a RADIUS server (both of which are free components in windows 2000 and 2003).

The built in client in XP is more than sufficient.

Send me a PM if you like , as this is the sort of thing that we do all the time at work
