Hi and Welcome!

don't forget about APR whose switchable maps also use the control cruise functionality.

If you want cruise control and as an alternative Briskoda has a retro curise control package....

Hi Richie, right lets try to add to what Nick has written (which is going to be tricky).

I've driven the Golf as well as the RS, for the RS I prefered:

the seating position, I could get the seat lower than in the Golf. I felt I was sitting in it rather than on it.

The car feels more composed (as standard) than the Golf, possibly due to the weight distribution and the lengthened wheel base.

The RS is quicker (assuming both are unmodded). Guess that'll be the extra 30-40 little horsies then.

Part leather and climate are standard on all RSs of the age you are looking at.

The only "facelift" type thing that I know of was a changing of the colour of the A pillar trim and IIRC the headlining (from grey/beige to black) for 2002 models, nothing external. With the Y plate ones, make sure they have the 17" wheels fitted, early ones came with 16s. Dealer will swap FOC for you IIRC.

Not many had cruise as standard, but it is easily fitted for

Excellent news.

Im popping down for a test drive in a dealer

Gallery? Available on here for some, others are on www.octaviars.com

Black, Red (Corrida/Rentboy and Rally), Silver and Yellow. Thats them in alphabetical order, no bias. Also white for the WRC limited edition.

IIRC the Golf Gti Turbo is only 150bhp standard were as the Octavia vRS is 180bhp.

Also when I ordered my Fabia I noticed that you get alot more for your money for example I can get a decent spec Fabia vRS for

Black(battyboy), Red (For real men), Silver and Yellow. Thats them in alphabetical order, no bias. Also white for the WRC limited edition.

dont put yourself down Jon...

i could be wrong but another point mentioning is that i believe that the octy responds consistently better to tuning in terms of figures achieved than other VAG cars.

right/wrong? anyone?

Took a trip to my local dealer and got a test drive tonight.

VERY PLEASANTLY SUPRISED

Having owned all sorts of quick jap 4x4 cars, for 180BHP FWD I was very impressed.

Chassis and handling (from the short test drive) seemed firm, stable and very effortless.

More impressive to me was the abundance of torque from below 2000RPM if needed. I've not felt that kind of pull from those sort of revs on any car I've driven to date.

Trade in deal was better than expected as was the dealers non pushy attitude.

I reckon, for the money, the Golf/A3 dont come close, year for year, spec for spec.

But.........This is where the differerence lies and it's a shame. I spoke to my better half and the consensus was; if it was a golf/audi she would be happy for me to spend the cash and she would see it for the first time on our drive. Because it's a Skoda, she wants to drive it and give it a right good girlie inspection ;) for what thats worth !

Now that bothers me as I can see beyond the badge, many people dont.

I'm sure when she gets a good look at one she'll be as impressed as me, but what a shame that is the first impression.

Overall, I'm a happy bunny, looks like there are still some cracking bargains about on the 2nd hand market, just a shame I probably cant commit for about another 6 weeks, else I would have had his hand off :)

Thanks for all the steers,

Rgds

Remember ninj, women don't know anything about cars.

Just take the badges of and tell her its a top of the range BMW and you will be laughing all the way to the bank and the bedroom if she belives you!

might be a little late for advice in this thread
