Octy vRS or not?

Monkey****** I think you are delib' misunderstanding my posts. I do not agree with what the reviewers have said regarding Octy handling.

That's Mr Decidedly Average Driver to you :p

As Ian says, look at one of the Elegance models in the Octavia range. Having said that, you'll probably get more for your money buying a Superb (especially an ex-demo one) as their prices seem to drop more in the first 6-12 months than the Octavias.

Its all about what you want from the car at the end of the day.

have driven all the vehicles mentioned.. none handle as well as my old Accord Type R but then again not much does..

vRS on coilovers is closest to it..

William which countries motoring press do you read cos all UK mags rave about the vRS.. i think its Car that refered to the range as " pointless, vRS excepted"

Grow up

Oh come on now. You asked for that one with your log on name. However I have had a bad day today, so I apologise completely.

IIRC Car is the one that says "pick of the range - 4x4" :haha:

But I agree - william, you do seem to be comparing cars of different objectives?

Monkeyhanger is a term IIRC used for someone from Hartlepool, which is IIRC where he is from so - maybe not asking for it so much?

Ian,

You've missed a bit out should read, "IIRC Caravaning Monthly is the one that says............".

My point about the handling is that the soft handling that makes the Octy and even more so the Superb a comfy family car is less than ideal for a car with high power' date=' which needs to be able to stick to the road.

I would buy the vRS, but my wife has very different prioraties for a car.[/quote']

William, the vRS has different suspension to the other Octavias in the range - stiffer and lower springs, and stiffer dampers. I know, cos I've tried both now, on the same car :D On standard suspension I did indeed feel the car was a little wallowy - quite happy now it's on the vRS gear (which incidentally doesn't include the ARBs which could be stiffer also).

The vRS suspension seems a good compromise between comfort and driveability. For some who need roadholding improved to track levels it can be replaced with more exotic stuff but for everyday fast road motoring I think it's just fine.

Hope this helps

No, the Caravan Club magazine voted the 4x4 both class winner and overall towcar of the year for 2002.

It didn't win in 2003 'cos skoda did not submit it, so the superb won both class and overall towcar of the year 2003.

I stand corrected...................still, twos only a joke. :slap:

I know :slap: but there was such irony in the humour I had to quote the results - good for skoda to be recognised anywhere IMO - even if I *don't* have a towbar or any desire to tow anything.

  • 1 year later...

The suspension can be a bit soft in std form compaired to the like of cupra R, typr R, cooper S but as for everything else its has been said to be the best vw product for all round ability and chassis control.

An upgrade of shocks can cure that softness

As already said EVO and Autocar amounst other gave great review so dont be put off.

You could wait for new VRS at end of year its sure to blow new golf out the water

are you a man or a mouse? get the car you want!

But has returned a couple of times

Superb is not a sports car' date=' but a luxury cruiser.

True...however, the 2.8ltr V6 is faster than a stock vRS Octavia.

Heavy damn car too, but I'm sure if you drop it over 60mm the handling would be pretty decent....somebosy has done that here in Dubai, his wheel arches are just about a millimeter above the 45s e's got, and it looks fantastic too.
