My service light has just come on on my Octy Vrs for it's 40,000 mile service so I contacted my local dealer and they have quoted:

Service

£545!!! :o f00k me

but no if it's a cambelt change and the service for £545 thats about right :(

40k seems early for the cambelt or is it because it's 4yrs old?

Bloody hell:eek:mines is due in January, but im going to Star.was up a couple of weeks ago.40k service is only plugs, filters, fluids.I would rather travel 110 mile round trip than go 3 miles to get ripped off.

Blimey

I was going to use the dealer for the service and possibly Star Performance for the timing belt but still need to price it out.

The only reason I want the service done at my local Skoda dealer is that I'm thinking of changing my car in a year and would prefer all the service stamps to be Skoda ones.

Ive just had my 40k service and cambelt, tensioners, water pump (the revised metal impellor version) on my 1.8T 4x4 all done for less than that by Jabbasport!

I cannot fault their work in anyway (which is very unusual for me as Im a perfectionist!)

The car now drives better than it ever has and you can actually watch them working on your car from the customer waiting area.

You'd be crackers to accept that price. Go to a local independent and get it done for 1/2 the price

STOP PRESS:

Had my car serviced (First Service) for £50 cheaper than the dealer at a local independent garage. The dealer quoted me £140 ex vat. My local garage did it for £109 inc vat. I had a phone call from the dealer to ask me why I had not had it serviced by them. I told them the cost difference and they said they would have matched it. Since when were dealers this flexible?! I said I would negotiate with them for the 20,000 service next year!!

I don't understand all this price-matching - it just makes me think they're trying to rip me off and what else is being overcharged for. I'm happy to pay a little extra for their skill, but double is a bit steep!

As for the OP's quote - try ringing round some other Skoda dealers so you have a range of prices to see if it's typical or not.... on my Fabia I got prices ranging from

I actually called the two other closest dealers to me to get quotes and was astonished.

The original quote came from West End Garage in Broxburn -

Have you tried Witherspoons , who are an new independant VAG Group Garage in Sighthill Edinburgh.

They quoted £217 for the Cambelt and the servicing ranged fro 105 - 170 if I remember correctly.

Having said that the Bannockburn price seem good I use West End with no problems to date, but those prices seem steep.

i paid £300 for my 40k service and an MOT at my local dealers. I was under the impression it was a pretty important service so i let them do it..i would never do it again...they give you a check list of the work they have done and believe me - its a rip off (I dont need them to check my tyre tread depth for me!). I got the service stamp fair enough...but i dont think it was worth it. will just take it to a decent independent place from now on. Thats just my opinion but tbh i dont like my local dealer anyway!

I thought of trying an independant for the cam belt but I am going to be changing the car before the next service and wanted to keep all the service stamps Skoda!

There is a limit when it comes to how much it costs but for the extra little distance to Bannockburn then it seems like better value for money - well to me anyway!

I piad £650 for my 40k service, included cam belt change and rear brake pads

Got my Octy serviced at Inde Tech and had a very similar experience to Lee's at Jabbasport.

It's worth remembering that your local independent specialists don't have people who bought the car from them automatically bringing it back for servicing.

They have to be good at what they do because it's usually all that they do...

Paid £930 for a 40k service with new rear pads and discs at local independent. Mind you they also "fitted" the Revo at the same time so not too bad, but try telling that to my wife! Just got to fork out for this imaginery problem with cambelts - funny how they used to last much longer.
