The mystery loss of power problem.

Featured Replies

Given the weather is starting to cool again, I wonder when we'll start seeing posts about "my power has gone suddenly" "my turbo has gone to sleep" and similar. All resolved by switching off/on the ignition.

It seems that this never happens in the summer.

isn't that somthing to do with the barometric pressure sensor??

No. As you only joined in May you'll not have seen this yet ;)

well what causes it then??

I always find my car is better in the winter!! I really must have a very dodgy car!

Oh yes, the infamous 17705 boost leak error. If thats one you are thinking of.

my car goes better in winter!!! thought most turbos did as the air going into them is colder and dense thus more ummph!!:).....but than again i have been known to be wrong!!

k:)

A good intercooler will help this loss of power in the summer:thumbup: Standard one can't cope too well when it's over abut 23 degrees.

Or whap on a monster one:D

No problemo then ;)

i've seen in the past where the interccoler is too effiecient and in icy cold conditions actually cools the air charge too much so we had to restrict the air going into the intercooler

Any more info on this problem? A friend of mine owns a leon cupra and has recently described the exact symptoms you speak of (loss of power, rectified by switching off and back on). Would be interested to find a cure!

Over boost

= limp mod.

we're not saying the cold weather is a bad thing but sometimes the 1.8T goes funny and limits boost to 5psi instead of the standard 7 or whatever your remapped to. so for people like me a 14psi drop in boost is really quite noticable

btw mine did it the other day :(
