Fabia 1.4 8V How get battery out pls?

Featured Replies

Hi

Edit - deleted, as I've just found the manual that says it's best to let a Skoda dealer remove it.

just for peoples reference, you need a 13mm socket on a long extension to remove the plates that secure the battery to the battery tray, then you should be able to just lift it out.

Update - went for Plan B and rolled my car close enough to an electrical power source so it's on my battery charger at the moment :).

By the by, we could see a nut in front of the battery (at the middle) on whatever it was sitting, but assumed there must be more than one and couldn't see how one could access any others.

Actually I wouldnt mind knowing what proceedures to use when disconnecting and reconnecting the battery on a Fabia vrs. I know this sounds lame but I dont know if disconnecting the battery means that I loose the radio code or any other on-board codes that might risk rendering the car innoperative or cause the air bags to deploy. My last car, a Peugeot, did have such risks.

Is there a set procedure to follow to remove all such risks? I just dont fancy the idea of having to call the garage to get all systems up and running again if I encounter any problems once I've reconnected the battery. Any advice would be most welcome.

My appologied for hi-jacking the thread but I didnt know how to start a new one.

After posting originally, I've read two other threads where peeps have said that they had big problems and all they did was to remove the battery. Off the bat of the manual advice and said bad experiences, I would only advise that you really do make sure that you know what you're doing.

I'm not a car person, so I guess that if you are, you'll know what risk you are happy with.

As Tom says, just use a long-handled socket to undo the clamp at the front, take off positive, then negative and lift battery out :D 5 minute job (unless it's the middle of winter and you have to keep going in to warm your hands up!)

Fitting is the reverse of the above :D

You will lose the radio code and the one-touch window operation (plus all the trip computer settings). Not sure why the airbags would deploy if you disconnected the battery?
