Tamiya R/C fun

Featured Replies

Hey all, i soooooo really for along time wanted to start into this for fun ( in local car park haha) but not sure how much it would cost or what to get thats not too expensive but worth while......would like the combustion type rather than leccy.

Above all i would like a RC helicopter but hey, i must first crawl before walk then run?

Anyone any ideas where to look n start, i live in West Yorkshire so if anyone local who can show me there gear for an insight that would be great........

thanks

Spevie :D

Hi Spevie,

If you go to page 7 of this thread I have written an extensive post about the pros and cos of each class which answer most of your questions and more:

I must emphisise the cost of racing nitro is slightly higher than electric, however the enjoyment gained from it is unparalleled! :D

RC helicopters are about £100 for a good quality entry electric kit, which includes everything you need to fly such as charger, batteries etc. However IC (Internal Combustion) helicopters start from about £600+ for everything you need.

As for the cars, West Yorkshire has many many tracks locally and many of the best model shops due to their proximity with these tracks. Here is the BRCA links page which should help you out:

I will be down at Halifax and Tibshelf in the coming months quite often so we could meet up there and I could show you how it all works.

A cool e-bay purchase funded by some second hand Fabia consoles I sold TeflonTom during the week (cheers mate).

The car has now been specced to our Mille Miglia spec so can be raced at our sunday GP thats coming up, sweet.

I keep on reading this thread and it so makes me want to go racing again.

I've still got my Tamiya Super Sabre and my Kyosho Optima Mid.

I love them and can't bring myself to sell them.

So keep the updates coming, any more and i'll be on ebay looking for a car and bits to race!!!!

The Mini is now race ready, inside of the body protected with tank tape and sticky backed felt. Has worked well thus far on the Suzuki.
