A few more after a sucessfull first outing, still not sure if the ESC is set correctly, I didnt get instructions with it so not sure if i'm getting full throttle (its a NoLimit ESC with a single button and red and green lights). Battery gives up after about 10 mins with the 15x2 motor, but it is a 2100Ah so I guess not the biggest you can get.

The story carries on..

Now the Egress is working I decided to give the Lunchbox a going over. I have got a few bits for it now, an ESC that was in the Egress (but not suitable for the motor), a ball race set, sport tuned motor and I have a new body coming. However I thought id have a play with the old body and try a few ideas out. I re-drilled the holes for the post mounts lowering the body. Filled and sanded down the original holes and started prepping the body for a repaint. Im not to fussed if it doesnt come out great, its an old broken body anyhow. The front grill etc had been broken off a long time ago but this allows the body to sit lower anyhow.

A way to go yet, hmm what colour to do it in?

The Egress is looking nice Ross :)

I'll have to dust my cars off and get some pics!

I've been having some fun with the Lunchbox recently. After trying out a few ideas on the old green body I have now painted a new one for show and i'll keep the old one as a basher body.

I modded the shell by filling the original body holes and redrilling higher up so the body sits a bit lower and then priming the shell to check all looked good before giving the van a liberal coating of automotive paint. Ok its not true to the Vanessa theme but I wanted to do something different as it was never going to be a box original.

Just waiting on the chrome bits and windows now to finish it off

Now fully ball raced and the Sport Tuned motor is run by the Tamiya ESC its great fun. Front end is beefed up with some stronger steering arms but still pretty much goes where it wants to on the rough stuff, I think i need some CVA's.

All in all having fun and very happy.

That looks real nice Ross

The most important part is as you say your havng fun!!

I always fancied getting into this, especailly with the kids getting to the age where they can come along and have fun as well.

Where would you "start" from if your new to RC, all I have at the mo' is a cheap indoor heli from Firebox which is fun. I have got no shortage of places to have fun on the rough (cough)

What kinda thing you looking for? Fun or maybe a bit of competition?

I quite like the look of this...

I built one of these a couple of years ago, but never got round to installing radio gear..

The 350 High Lift is brand new out and is some kit (3 speed gearbox, manually changed via transmitter). They all rave about it on tamiyaclub.com, very slow but has serious off road ability.

Fun to start off with, if the kids get interested then maybe go the next step

e-bay is you best friend then, plenty of cheap new or unwanted toys on there.

Up to you if you want to go Nitro or Electric though, pros and cons to both.

That will do me then! -- My hand to eye co-ordination is not upto one of these 35mph rockets:rolleyes:

Very nice - cost in the UK is around £285 !! Its due out 26th September..

The guy makes a comment about the speed, apparently its geared slower than the Semi trucks - obviously for offroad performance then

And I bet that £285 doesnt include the specific 4 channel radio system either.

And I bet that

An impressive beast to be sure!

Best way to get into R/C if you want to take possible competition into account is Tamiya's Touring Car range or their buggy off-roaders. Those should see you up and running with everything for a couple of hundred quid :)

Best ready to run (RTR off road electric at the moment is the RC10 B4 RTR RS - Basicly a top of the range off road electric toned down for cheaper costs and also more controlable speeds for beginners. Cost is

I'm a big fan of the Tmaxx. It may be a bit fast for a nipper, but for adults it great. Very tunable, and is it tough or what. My mate has one and the punishment it can take beggers belief.

Mike, what would you suggest for someone who has experience of building fairly complex kits and would like fairly good on road / track performance without going to a full competition spec ??

I would say that about 75% of my enjoyment comes from the build -- I find it hugely annoying when the battery drains after 10 mins :thumbdwn:

As for the battery times, with a 19 turn motor in an off road electric kit coupled with six 4200mAh NiMh cells you will get about 20-30 mins play time:P . However, I only recommend using any RC model for a maximum period of 15 mins for several reasons:

If the cells "dump" (discharge low enough to cause a noticable drop in performance) then stop the model immediately. If the cells are used until the car stops dead the cells may not recharge correctly and consequently new cells will have to be bought.

The motor will also get hot together with the ESC (Electronic Speed Control) which could burn out. I have seen and had motors that have unsoldered themselves due to overgearing and long run times in the past and it aint pretty. Also a new ESC can cost from as little as
