I think we need a Brisky R/C meeting ;)

Sounds like fun :D

The racing scene was really getting mentally expensive just as I left it, particularly the 1/10 Touring Car classes. With the competition motors installed, mine would go 0-35mph in about 35-40 meters  Thats really going some for an electric car! The tarmac track that the Carlisle club built was about 200 meters long with a 35 meter straight. We were lapping it in about 17 seconds :D

I look back on what I used to spend on them and shiver :o

@ Lummox -

That Egress looks so clean!!

Did you ever use it?

Anyone know where i'd get a front suspension turret for a Lazer ZXR from? think it'd be the same as the Optima mid one, its the 'U' shaped bit the front shocks bolt to at the top.

I need some bits for mu Optima Mid aswell.

So any pointers much appreciated

.

Yes I used it in competition. Wasnt that clean when I dug it out. Just stripped it down to nuts and bolts and cleaned every part up and rebuilt it.

She runs!

I paid a visit to a local model shop in towm (Tamiya stockist) which was a bit of a mistake. I walked out with two cans of spray paint to do the Egress shell when it turns up (correct colour, silver and black for the windows) An assorted bag of body clips to hold the shell on and an Orion 15x2 motor (not sure if thats any good, lady in the shop said it was and it was on sale). Got back, installed the motor and set up the speed controller to the transmitter and we were off. I had forgotten just how quick and nimble the Egress was, it bottoms out a little bit, not sure if I need some thicker damper oil (it is 16 years old).

Indeed, and I feel thats what is choking the hobby/sport - because there is a thin line between doing it as a hobby and doing it as a sport the costs shoot up. Fair enough to play in a car park you can get a Mardave for £100 and have a blat around with mates, but when you start to get into racing the costs go sky high. Things are limited such as the costs and motors by the governing body - the BRCA - but it is still to expensive.

I race in a few different classes and here is just the costs on my 1/10th scale buggy at the moment (not to mention what was spent on it before upgrades/ replacement parts etc). UK RRP prices by the way

Chassis - £210

Tyres - £7.50 a pair

Wheels - £5 a pair

Spring kit - £20

Servo - £80

Speed Control- £180

Reciever - £80

Battery - £60 (you need several of these!)

Motor - £60

Total on the car...£715

And almost everyone has this amount of gear on other competitors cars!

Also,

Charger - £160

PSU for charger (either car battery or PSU) £30

Discharger £50

Spare batteries - £60 x 4

Transmitter - £350

Spare motors - £60 x 3

Comm lathe - £100

Diamond tip for lathe - £70

Total of everything... £1895

And, as you ex/current racers probably know, equipment becomes obsolete very quickly! And I whinge at the Mrs breeding Rats

No it wont, as the car cuts out.

Have allready bagged a RCLine No Limit ESC off e-bay and Ill use the Tamiya one on the Lunchbox, I only paid a

Seeing all this makes me think I should go and get my toys out. I did a bit of racing with my HPI pro 2.

10926.attach

Still got it but it requires some attention to get ready to run.

Also got lots of bodies for it. Generally WRC representaions in custom colour schemes .

Also got several

10927.attach

All in varying states of repair. All bought due to my dad having a real one (road going).

Also got the tamiya front wheel drive chassis with a renault Alpine body and i was given a full Tamiya Evo V 1/10 kit a few years ago which is somewhere still in its box and untouched.

Ones I have in various caonditions are:

Tamiya Manta Ray, now with BMW M3 Body

Tamiya Black Foot

Mardave MiniStock

Assosciated RC10 Stealth

Thi MiniStock was most fun and only £40!

In 1989 I think I had one of these. Definitely looks the same and was pretty darn quick for a battery powered car.

So whens this meet happening then?! Knowing my luck though, everyone probably lives at least a billion miles from me! Its amazing how many people have RC's... somehow everyone I know manages not to have any though and just thinks I'm a big kid!

starch - Those Audi's are quite sought after now, nice one.

Lummox - Yea I sold that one thats in that photo a few years ago, but Ive managed to find enough bits to build a complete car from scratch all apart from the front tyres of all things which are apparently impossible to get for some reason, and the body, which I have got a pristine shell, stripped down ready for paint and new deacals.

Ill get it finnished one day!

The rest are all in varying states awaiting some restoration.

They are a bit cause of the large size and strange curved shapes of some and some of them have to wrap around the front wings and getting them so the relief cuts are in the right place is a nightmare, and then a lot of them have to overlap. Its crazy as i remember.

Unfortunalty all they have for the quattro apparently is the front bumper stay, of which i have loads, old and new.

So when is this meeting happening? Ill have to try and get some of my cars going to put in an appearance.

Not sure on the meeting, need to get the Egress running properly first.

:)

I'll need to get my my Optima fixed before the meet, still got to source some bits for mine.

So don't rush to much everyone please.

somehow everyone I know manages not to have any though and just thinks I'm a big kid!

But we ARE big kids :D

Was going to have a look today for any Ultima bits at work but totally forgot, as I was drooling over one of these:

09092006101.jpg

Thunder Tiger Nitro MAN Truck, 2WD, Very sexy looking chassis and it looks like there will be a future 2 speed gear box:D

Anywho, I aint there on Monday but if you give Stockton Modeller a call on 01642 616 680 we can have a look for your Ultima parts! Plus, we do mail order!

My new ESC turned up so now hopefully i wont be cutting out after a few minutes anymore. Also my Kamtec repro shell arrived and was duly trimmed up and painted. A little more left to do but I do intend on playing with it rather than it being a shelf queen so if it isnt 100% correct then it doesnt bother me.

Sept2006031.jpgSept2006032.jpgSept2006033.jpg

Looking forward to testing it out again.

That looks really nice. Don't know why but its quite rare to see a silver painted shell.
