Strange noises after fitting Forge FMIC or TIP

Featured Replies

I had these fitted the other day and have noticed some odd noises at about 1500-3000rpm when feathering the throttle (for example in stop-start traffic). The noise can be described as a distant siren or a ghost is in my engine bay! The noises go away when you put your foot down properly. I also get the noise if I rev the car hard at standstill.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks in advance.

are you sure its not just the turbo sounding different due to the TIP?

That's what I'm trying to find out, would the TIP make the turbo sound like this?

Could be a boost leak though if it sounds like a high pitched shrill/fart.

Could it be the secondary Air pump? Thats how I noticed mine..strange noise between a certain rev range.

It sounds very much like the secondary air pump, but that usually goes off after warm up. This noise stays when warm. bpm - I didn't realise you had a TIP.

Where are the common places for a boost leak to occur? Is it possible for the side mount intercooler to get punctured?

Sirens and ghosts?! Who the heck would describe engine noises like that! ;) :P

It is certainly a wierd noise but thinking on it further I reckon it may well just be the increased airflow going to the turbo now. I tried really hard to hear mine this morning on the way in to work but I couldnt. I think my exhaust noise simply covers it up but I wouldnt be surprised if mine did it too.

Im sure it'll be fine anyway; it seemed to pull nicely and had no other side effects.
