Immaturity in tunnels

Featured Replies

It's not just me is it?

I get a childish sense of satisfaction when I go through a tunnel and give it a little beans. I guess its the reverberation of the exhaust note that gives that nice fake "Oooh, it's a TVR" feeling? Anyway - anyone else have the same bit of fun in every tunnel possible? I'm already thinking ahead to the tunnel by Maidstone on the A2 next week.

LOL! I used to do that with my black one :D

Yes :o

There is a few in MK, MR2 with Apexi CAI + tunnel = TVR

I used to do it with the Scooby, but I don't like advertising the fact I drive a car running on satan's fuel ;)

I can still remember your immaturity on the RPM late autumn tour of 2003. And that was just by houses, not in tunnels. :D

Did sound nice though and was fully Ring legal too

oooooooooo i love tunnels, certainly like to drop it a cog n boot it. But soon i will own a diesel and it wont do it as good any more :(

i usually do it in the motorway tunnels for the laugh while stuck in traffic jams..

.

I own a diesel. It need not be total exhaust silence and no fun with a TDI. ;)

it wont be as good as my current big barry exhaust though lol!!!

i suppose i will have to try n listen out for the whistle of the turbo

Regularly do that with mine...was in a tunnel with a ferrari the other day...my God it sounded so beautiful....

I used to run a 1972 MGB GT with a cherrybomb centre silencer and twin SU carbs.

Whenever I went thru a tunnel/underpass I used to push the Webasto roof right back, drop it a gear and give it laldy:D

I also had a Skunk2 cat-back stainless system on my Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC that, when run without the bung, would set car alarms off if you booted it in close proximity.

It was great fun whenever I found myself in a multi-storey although to be fair, the car was so low on it's coilovers that it couldn't make it into most car parks!

Cheers,

Steven (32 going on 18);)

My old 3.0 and 2.8 Capris with performance exhausts and manifolds on were great in a tunnel near to home. The wife knew I was on my way back from work a few minutes before I got there.

Yep I do it too. It sounds so good :D

Could have something to do with my Custom built - handmade, stainless steel Backbox ;)

Ah memories of the Dartford tunnel in my mini - and the underpasses in Birmingham :rofl:

MPM :D

Ahh yes, used to love the Dartford tunnel, and the Cuilfail tunnel in Lewes, V6 Alfa sounds awesome going through there, sadly it doesn't work with a diesel, just ampifies the sh*tness!!

Best one was when I drove down through Italy in my GTiR, thousands of tunnels, me and a mate in his Integrale, both with huge exhausts, was just the best!!

A mate of mine used to have an R1 bike, and he used to make it backfire intentionally under the big railway bridge in Woking ... until one night he did it and some elderly fella' collapsed on the pavement.

Returning through town a few minutes later, there was an ambulance crew there. Don't think he did it again after that!

I sometimes hoof it, or back-off quickly when going between high buildings, so it makes a loud pop-pop-pop noise ... trouble is I never get to hear it all because SWMBO starts telling me to grow up

She may have a point ...

i remember coming through the blackwall tunnel in london once on new years day at about 4am and i could hear this kind of almost god-like burble coming through. i thought to myself i bet that's going to be a lambo or something, but when it went past is was a moped with the exhaust missing!

Guilty as charged. Sadly there are no tunnels round here at all :( just an extra long railway bridge in Lichfield.

I used to have an immense amount of fun in tunnels with carb'd bikes, kill switch off, big fist of throttle, kill switch on and smile at the sheet of yellow flame and the ensuing bang.

bloody fuel injection has put an end to that though

make it backfire intentionally

Yeh I Stick the **** in my garage and make 'er backfire :)

Makes her sound so beefy :D

Sad but sweet

It's not just the sound. The closeness of the walls makes it feel much faster too.

Either that, or it reminds us of being born

Its the sort of thing I just cant resist. Used to do it on the bikes a lot more often. Big or high revving V8 stuff sounds good too.

Chris

vtec + intake + tunnel = music to my ears.

backfire? isnt that what old cars do?

Long ago I had a modded Triumph Vitesse 2-litre. Amongst other mods it had a tubular exhaust manifold and a freeflow exhaust system :):)

Quite apart from a fantastic straight 6 howl under power, if you lifted off at speed it shot flames out of the tailpipes :D:D:D:D
