Permission from the wife

Featured Replies

I have now had permission from my wife to swap my mk1 Octi vRS for a new Octi. I'd Like the 2l pd dsg sport but you dont seem to get much kit for your money. I was thinking about going for an Elegance or L&K and getting the sport pack fitted.

Has anyone out there bought an ordinary elegance and then had the sports pack fitted? I've had a read through the threads but I'm gussing that most people who want a sporty drive buy the sport or the vrs

I bought an L&K but tbh, the seats on the Sport are more comfortable for me. And the ride on 17s with Sport susp is a bit choppy. Great engine and g/box though.

I'd agree with Stumpy. Engine and gearbox are great. I have the elegence which has lots of "toys". I too find the Sport Suspension and 17" wheels a little harsh.

However, I much preffered the handling of the sports suspension over the standard offering so found this to be a comprimise. I also have the estate which can "wollow" (cant spell) but with stiffer suspension feels much more stable

I suggest you try and get a test drive to compare - I'm pretty sure all Sports have the suspension. You can always have an Elegance with the sporty suspension (like me).

The seats in the Elegance are so much more comfortable than that of the Octy 1, but again give it a whirl

The back seat is like a wooden bench - I hope you don't have kids! I spent 3 hours in one between Swindon and Ipswich the other day and I couldn't get comfortable the whole trip :(

I agree although I hav'nt spent anywhere near as much time sitting in the back (the drivers seat is a much more enjoyable place to sit ;) ) I'm not looking forward to being a rear passenger on our marathon trip to the Czech Republic!.

Cheers guys, I do have 1 child at the moment but he will be in child/booster seats for quite some time yet.

I find the ride in the mk1 vrs quite harsh so i would expect the sports suspension to be slightly softer, unless its the same as the new vrs suspension.

The ride in the new vRS is in a different league to the MkI, much more compliant and handles much better too. Have you had a test drive in any MkII variant yet?, if not at least have a go in the vRS as I think you might be surprised at the difference .

I have a 2.0 TDI DSG L&K Estate with the 17" alloys, sports suspension, dealer fit sports front bumper and colour keyed rubbing strips. Personally compared to my previous A4 Avant Sport the ride is extremely confortable!

Here's a couple of pics of it taken delivery day!

I have the sports suspension on my Elegance and it's ok once you get used to it.

I spend about 6 hours a day in my car and i never suffer from any kind of discomfort.

Obviously the harder suspension and wider tyres help the handling of the car especially if it's an estate.

Get the sunset glass as well, it really looks the part:thumbup:

Golfturbo, do you have any closer pics of the chrome zorst trim? I am after one for my oil burner.

I have the 2L elegance hatch with the 17in Alloys, ESP and the rear boot lip and twin exhaust.

I got that before the Sport came out so only the lower spoilers are missing. Glad really, as you say the sport is based on the amdience spec so misses out on a few extras.

Either way its a nice car and I'm happy.:)

Is there no end to your list of new things?! You do live in a very select area now I suppose though. ;)

It all depends on how you think you drive. Be honest with yourself, like the rest of us, you spend most time in a line of traffic on whatever road you drive - motorways, town or A roads. Fact is that Sports suspension is just harsher than the standard suspension and for what gain?. The standard suspension is well sorted, stable and suited to the Estate don't waste your money os sports suspension but spend it on a safety related system which might well save your life!

In a way you just hit on why I traded my Mk1 vRS for a Mk2 2.0FSI. I found I was using the oomph so rarely, and out on the motorway I hardly notice the difference [the way I drive!] so the better handling and home comforts on the new car go along with lower insurance and running costs. Still a spritely car - I'm just getting old I guess!

Great looking car Golfturbo. How much did your stealer charge you for the sports kit and suspension/wheels?

I would like to see pics of the Chrome trim too please - Golfturbo.

Can you also tell me more about the colour keyed side strips ?

The colour keyed stripes look the business.

Is it just a case of removing the plain ones and getting them sprayed?

Or get both and have the best of both worlds.

Granted the sports suspension doesn't matter when sitting in traffic but it really makes the difference on those twisty B roads and grabbing a little bit of fun here and there makes those hours of traffic seem a little less daunting.

I havent been in a mk2 so I dont know how they drive. I dont want to try the vRS beacuse like the mk1 i bought it straight after i test drove it and the reason for changing it is to try and cut cost's each month by reducing fuel/road tax/insurance bills etc, plus since my wife bought her fabia vrs i'm hooked on torque and effortless driving.

In that case you will are in for a surprise as the 2.0TDI doesnt drive like the PD130 lump.

The torque is more spread out across the rev range and you don't have that kick you experience in the 2000 rpm region in a Fab vRS.

It takes a little getting used to but it's still a fine engine.

You need to drive one over a decent distance to judge for yourself.

We have 2 Octy L&K Estates in our work car park (the 1st one was the one the dealer ordered without the DSG and we subsequently bought cheap!), when parked next to one another the rubbing strips really make the car look different along with the sport front bumper of course!

It's easier to get new ones and spray them, then just a simple swap over. The rear bumper was masked and then sprayed (although you would hardly know it)

Golfturbo,

How much did you pay the stealer to add the sports bits? Presumably £500ish for the wheels and suspension, how much did they charge for the spoilers? Your car looks the business...

As we talked about, i'm getting fed up of 28-30mpg and am getting a bit older and should be settling down now. I am a family man and should be a responsible adult:thumbup:

Now the PD170 in the VRS on the other hand .... ;):D :D :D

I haven't had the pleasure of the PD170 as yet so I couldn't possibly comment
