petrol and diesel vRS residuals

Featured Replies

Much has been written on this forum regarding residuals.

I have just had a look on the Lex free choice website and they are now listing the diesel vRS.

Based on a 3 year 90,000 mile lease the petrol has MGFV (minimum guaranteed future valuue)of £4632 and the diesel a MGFV of £4872.

In other words the residuals are;

petrol 26.4%

diesel 26.5%

so the diesel will hold it's value better;)

Traditionally diesels tend to hold their value better, but between the vRS petrol and diesel thats very close.

A small price to pay to have a rev counter that does not stop half the way round the dial :D :D

Does look like a good residual either way though, and not much in it at £240

Technically not. The diesel will lose more money over the same period. It's about £900 more expensive to buy in the first place...

There was a note of sarcasm in my original post.

Sorry. Sarcasm detector's not working quite right at the mo... :o

I'd question the accuracy of those residual values anyway.

They are very cautious estimates designed to protect the interests of the leasing company and on a new car like the diesel VRS they are very much a guess.

The other diesel models of the Octy II hold up better than the petrol ones , especially at high mileages

Surely they'll both have the same level of cautiousness then? The petrol vRS has only been about for 9 months.

and they're not the same diesel engine...

But they know how well the petrol Mk1 VRS held up , and they know how the other Mk2 models are doing so they have a better idea than for a totally new car.

On what basis would you question their accuracy?

Leasing cars it what LEX do, they know about residuals, they are not biased!

...and surely residuals are all based on a cars desirability and exclusivity??? If nobody wants the TDI vRS, then it won't keep it's value very well. Obviously, the same goes the other way round, but judging by what people have been saying, a petrol vRS seems the more desirable

We've sold a lot more TDis than TFSis since August 23rd when we got the TDi demo. In fact I'm not sure we've sold any petrols!
