Q. Do you take your wheels off to clean them?

1) Yes I live at home with my parents.

2) Yes I'm single.

3) No' date=' I'm married.

4) I'm too embarased to do that.

I think that'd arrive at the same conclusion.[/quote']

1 for me then. As they say, nothing sadder than a brand new car on your parents drive! :P

Does anyone have one of the high pressure washers like Karscher? [?spelling?].

I wondered what that was like on alloys.

I have one of the little yellow monsters, its great uses less water and you can get so much crud out of the wheels just hitting it from different angles.

I just washed the wheel using poorboys slick and suds' date=' dried it then applied two coats of poorboys wheel sealant. Both excellent products that last for ages.

I can thoroughly recomend polishedbliss, there products are top class, and their advice thorough and easy to follow.

I would also add that it is a very good idea to remove your wheels periodically to prevent them seizing to the hub, a couple hours work every few months could save you a lot of trouble on the side of the road!![/quote']

Do you put the sealant on the back (inside) of the wheels only, or the fronts too?

Inside and out - 2 layers. Makes keeping them clean an absolute doddle.

Autoglym alloy wheel seal every time, once a week on the outside, once every 4 weeks on the inside. Stops the dust etching the wheels quite nicely. I never need to scrub the wheels, just a gentle brushing gets them good as new.

It's a good idea to remove the wheels every few months anyway' date=' to prevent the alloy from sticking to the steel hub (copper grease as a barrier works well).
I've been using Copperslip since before I was born.

I bet your mother was glad of that.......

She did say I could wriggle my way out of anything!

I'm at 2.5, yet my answer is 4. Should I be worried?

Should I be worried?

No :D

I draw the line at sticking my hand inside the wheels to clean them.

Even then there is much :confused::confused: from SWMBO who just doesn't understand.

I do an average 1300 miles a week so my wheels are dirty come monday evening when i've cleaned them Sunday afternoon. No doubt the neighbours get a laugh from it.

One problem with wheel cleaning is that it doesn't last hardly a day. Seems within one or two drives you are looking at grot again, even if it does come off easily.

Maybe you're currently using some very dusty pads? I found some Ferodo DS2500s were pretty restrained in their application of brake dust :) - they're not cheap though, but great performance from them - you get what you pay for I suppose...

Using Poorboy's wheel sealant also seems to stop as much dust sticking to the alloy in the first place. That's my experience anyway.

Steve

My pads are still original equipment. But the grot reappearing is probably not all brake dust, it is general cr*p off the roads, unavoidable, but a pain when you just spent x hours cleaning them up.

I've just had my front tyres replaced and the garage that did it gave the wheels a quick clean on the inside, they were hardly dirty, the outside seems to get a lot dirtier quicker.
