Well I bought EEA60001 - Skoda's detachable towbar and fitted it to my RS yesterday. It fitted like a glove. No cutting of the bumper required and when not in use is hidden away. This is a top quality piece of kit. I'll never go aftermarket again after fitting this one.

I didnt do the elctrics as the Skoda kit was very expensive so I'll be buying a trailor socket and relay bar and fitting it next week.

Nowt but a rear bulb blew on me today. Coincidence i wonder .........

Fair play to ya...does it bolt into the side from underneath the car ? (I see 4 holes, 2 on each side).

How does the trailor socket and relay bar differ from the Skoda set up ?

You have to remove the rear bumper bar. Then the towbar slots into the chassis and is bolted either side.

The towbar was 225 euro + 21% vat (managed a 10% discount). So 240 euro in total. The electrics were about the same price so I didnt take them. I can get a trailor socket for 10 euro and a relay bar for 40 euro which will do the same thing. All in all I should be done for around 300 euro. Whats that about 200 GBP?

Thing is if i went aftermarket and got it fitted by a "specialist" they wanted 350 euro for a standard swan neck and a butchered bumper.

This disappears totally when not in use. Top class job!

Hi Flynntech, sorry if this is a pain, but any photos of the bar with everything back in place? Are the electric sockets visible or do they fold out of the way when the tow ball is detached?

Our Dealer has offered to do me "a deal" on the parts, with a similar propositon, I ft the bar & they will sort out a the electrics! However I don't want to order the bar if I have to do "any" cutting of the bumper! I know it sounds petty, but I don't want any visible evedence when not in use!

I meant to take pics of the finished article but havent got around to doing the electrics yet. This towbar was MADE to fit the RS. Absolutely no cutting and it totally disappears. The electrics fold away as well.

If you have a non RS then I would think a small slot needs to be cut but again would not be visible when detached.

Thanks for the confirmation:thumbup: I have vRS, but neither the dealer or Skoda Technical could confirm that there didn't need to be some cutting, I will now be ordering it tomorrow. Can you point out where the bumper fixings are, how many & and what boot trim etc I will need to remove? I fitted the bar to my last car, but didn't have to remove a thing to do it! I am guessing from your photos that it's a little more involved:D , but am hoping that it's still not beyond me:D !

To remove the bumper there are torx screws in the wheel arches and underneath, inside the rear lights and 2 10mm bolts either side of the rear quater panels. Just pull out the carpets as I did to get at them.

The rear bumper bar needs to be removed to fit the towbar into the rear chassis rails too. Thie torx holding this on were caked in sealent that needed to be removed before the bolts holding it on.

While I was at it I removed the stupid "compartment" on the right hand side of the boot compartment . After about 3 days this was starting to come apart as it did in my 05TDI. A couple of blows of a hammer and it was removed. Much neater boot area now :lol:

Thanks Flynntech, much appreciated! I managed to get a bit of discount off all the parts, and a much lower billo for labour as they are only fitting the electrics. All in all this has worked out about the same as having a decent aftermarket bar fitted, but just looks sooooo much better!

All the towbar parts turned up last week, but another discussion with the dealer went as follows:

Me: I am happy to fit the tow bar, but want you to fit the electrics for

It is fairly labour intensive but I'd have no problem doing another one. I did the electrics at the weekend. I bought a relay box and trailor socket and connected it all up. Fairly simple if you are comfortable with electrics.

Come over to Eire and I'll fit them for ye :-) !!

I intend fitting a towbar so have been doing a lot of checking up. The Skoda supplied detachable bar is made by Westfalia.

Just got my car back, some good news and some bad!

On the plus side, the bar is exactly what I wanted! No sign of it at all when detached & it seems simple enough to set up, even if you do get wet knees in this weather!

Very pleased with the electics too. However there were 2 complete looms which have to be run the full length of the car and connect ito the existing loom/"box" under the bonnet, hence the time as loads of interior trim had, apparently, to be removed.

Thats where the bad news is; as I found half a dozen broken bits off the interior trim, in the boot and in the rear footwells!

I think that in an effort to keep costs down our local dealer has done a very shoddy job of fitting the electrics. Needles to say I am holding them to replacing all the trim that they damaged!! So there will be yet another return journey!

Next worry is making sure that when I connect the trailer electrics, nothing blows!! Knowing my luck I'll be back to the dealers again for that!

Only little niggle is that the tow ball is quite close to the bumper when fitted and with no bumper protector... well lots of care req

Have a Witter on mine, Fixed so a hole cut in the Bumper but very neet, also have a Alko towball so room for a bumper protector. All in fitted price

'WHAT THE.....' - Sorry guys, but i find the whole situation of time schedules, shoddy workmanship and blatant abuse of our beloved vehicles by so-called 'SPECIALISTS' top be somewhat of a travesty!!

INDESPENSION trailers, of whom i have every trust in, supplied & fitted my detachable with single electrics in less than '3' hours. There were NO holes to be cut - no senseless wiring and a job well done in my opinion.

Bought an aftermarket kit. Works 100%. No more blown bulbs. The blown bulb that I experienced before was definately due to manhandling the bulb when I had the rear lights out.
