1.8T swap

Featured Replies

hi everyone, i want to know how dificult is to do this swap into a fabia and what parts do i need beside transmicion, ecu and the engine and do you think is this a good idea to get more power insted of tuning my little engine.

here where i live you can get tranny, ecu and the engine for about $1950 US dollars, the engine is from a gti 00 150hp, but a dont have to pay all that because here i can sell mi engine and mi tranny for about $1500 i only wil have to pay $450, do you think this deal is good or i will have to forget about it and work on my engine.

You should have a look on the web and see who has stuck VR6 engines into Mk 1 and Mk2 golfs and polos and you may get some idea of costs involved. I know its not what you are planning on but it might show whether its viable or not.David

Funnily enough someone posted a picture of just such a conversion the other day, a red car, but I can't find it just now. Anybody?

I think it totaly depends on if you can do the work

yourself. If you have to pay normal price for a mechanic

to do everything it will much to expensive. Better to sell the car and by something else with the power you want.

What engine is in your Fabia now?

Hi, I'd also like to do this very much to my Fabia 1.4, getting a new VW 1.8T engine and making whatever work is necessary for it to run. Are new transmission and ECU that important for the 1.8 to work well?

Also ncarring, is this the car you were talking about??

Welcome to Briskoda.

That is a link to the car Nick is on about. Think that has been done in czech or Germany. Would be interesting to see it for real. I thought about doing it with my old 1.4 16v, but couldn't be without the car for the time it would take to transplant an engine and make it run. I was quoted by a couple of tuners over here about

Without the right ECU the engine isn't going to run at all. There are a number of different ones for the 1.8T engine, depending on power output, market (emissions) and transmission. Overall it sounds like an expensive modification unless you can get the parts cheap like choco can.

New Seat Ibiza MK4 FR 20VT has the 1.8T engine in it, and is as I understand it mechanically identical to the Fabia.

might be useful for you for parts/reference and stuff.
