Impreza STI

Featured Replies

Had a slight "brush" with one on Saturday. We parted best of buddies - I couldn''t make any ground on him, he couldn't lose me (all under NSL, of course :D:D)

I mentioned this on Scoobynet (in the course of an unrelated post) and got the typical "Subaru fastest thing on 4 wheels, Skodas are ****" reaction. From a rolling start (out of a roundabout), should I have been able to keep up with a (presumably) standard STI?

Confused, Central Scotland :(:(:(

What's the differance between a standard STi and STi. .......are they like my standard real vRS.;)

Well all I can say is that standard STi or otherwise, the Subaru boys who know me have stopped playing for some reason. :P

They will have stopped playing, but it won't stop them pulling out the "wet" weather card etc etc, it was not so long ago that the only place you saw a Subaru was down a muddy farm track with a border collie in the back :)

Most of the dudes on Scoobynet still think they have got the ultimate performance saloon ....... It's a good place to go to watch people bite :D

If it was a standard fugly then with the 4wd transmission losses, you'd probably be on a par with him. If it was PPP'ed he'd probably have the edge and be able to pull a bit of ground. If it was an old-skool STi, he'd be well away as he'd have 300bhp shifting 1300kg :D

He'd have had you in the twisties though ;)

What's worrying me about Scoob's is the price of Classics now, when I had my blobeye the classics where still out of cheeehavster territory. Now they are firmly in it.

Filled up with Vpower last night before coming to Brum today, Classic STI (or WRX with STI Spoiler) pulls in full of spotty yoof's. filled it up with 95 octane reg then proceeded to just tear **** up and down Winwick road. One spotty yoof mentioned they where going "Corsa hunting" ......... PMSL

I'm quicker than them in the wet, I find I struggle more when it's dry

Maybe it's because I love the wet.

When I had my old 1.4 16v, which was quicker than my current SDI, I used to love baiting them. Only found 3 that were quicker than me round the Ring - Floyd, Felstead (STI 5 Type RA V ltd, not standard) and Mellow in his tarmac spec RA (although he was slower than me flat out).

Did they let you put in laps in their cars Jon? Just wondered how the times compared with same drivers (as an old granny in her Kia would be quicker than me in the Scooby!)? :D

Chris

could have been a 200hp WRX with an STI badge...

Is it just me, or would anyone else be dubious about driving around in a car badged as an embarrassing itch?

But to be fair, Skoda is not exactly glamorous (to the masses), and how many of us on Brisky would own a Skoda if the Iron curtain was still up and VAG where not involved. People have different perceptions of brands, to some Subaru is a juvenile penile extension, to others it's a very succesful WRC manufacturer etc etc

BTW isn't the "itch" an STD ......

(PS just popping my Nomex undies on)

Seems to me it's both. Fine in a rally, embarassing on the road. "No, really, I'm a race-car driver, honest!"

WRX's are 225bhp not 200bhp ;)

from experience without a lot of work an STi would beat you easily in a straight line, i had a play with that WRX on the airfield and that was edging away from me that over 1.5 miles became a car length or two so an STi with about 50bhp more would be a walk over on his part.

Yeah but your car is a 4x4 ambulance maintained with all the finesse and technique of a sledgehammer wielding gorilla (with short legs) :P

HTH

:D

i'd argue that if i could :D

on the move though i should very little more in the way of transmission loses and shorter gearing so shouldn't be that much different. maybe.

Bengie, when I was running the standard turbo I had the edge over an STI. I thought it was established your turbo was knackered when you raced the WRX?

it was but it doesn't seem to pull any better now with a healthy turbo on, maybe my car is just slow?

when i had a quick passenger ride in stuarts car pre IHI it felt about the same as mine does now so i don't know really.

Go to the NHS Direct website and put "How can I catch an STi?" in their search field...

You're right though. Car ownership is an individual thing. Some people wouldn't be seen dead in a Scoob, some are still dubious about our beloved Skodas!

A Skoda, as quick as a Scoob? No, they are nearly as quick as a 2.0 Fabia

Who would ever play with them? You have an RS yes? Is it quicker than my SDI? If so, you may wish to provide them with the following links:

oh bugger ...

i've been using the it's only ....

a 90bhp with rear drums & spongey ride etc ...

as my excuse

now with 68bhp you're despatching scoobies

hmm, maybe i need to have a bravery /talent remap

as i can't keep up with 1200 estelles & rapids

What sort of reaction did you expect mate ?

Hmmm scoobynet. I stopped posting on there for a reason.

It not funny anymore it feels like the site is run by some 15 year olds, the only safe forum is the Photography section which i still sometimes go on
