Indicators

Featured Replies

I've posted this in Ask a Tech but I just wanted to fing out if any owners have found this,

"Guys have there been any issues with the indicator stalk on the Mk2 Octavia. I'm 99.99% sure that on a couple of occasions after I signal right and then turn right that the indicators DON'T reset when the wheel is straightened. Its one of those things where when you try to get it to happen it won't.

How does the reset work on these ? How far does it need to be turned before the resetting of the indicators occurs ?

I dunno if it could be related but my steering doesn't lock at I suppose what you'd call the zero deg position, it locks at about 45 deg clockwise. "

I actually noticed this morning on the way home from work that it also happened when turning left.

Thanks

I think thats a standard feature Gaff mine does the same as for the steering lock thats how its ment to be activated

If the steering is locked at 45 degrees, it's more difficult to drive/push the car onto a some form of transport. It's meant to be harder to drive away in a stolen car when it has a steering lock. This way the thief can only drive in a circle in the parking lot. ;)

Unless that is they just smash the steering lock

It may be not so easy on modern cars, but that's what happened when some youths tried to steal my Pug 309GTi. Fortunately I heard them outside the house at 2am, and chased them off. Expensive though as car needed all new locks, new steering column and ignition/steering lock. Thank goodness for insurance.

Standard...sure that can't be right..., why does it do it sometimes then ? Could it be a fault with them?

My Octy 2 did it sometimes too. When making a slight left hand turn, the indicators didn't always cancel. I sold the car before bothering to fix it. But then, being a BMW driver too means that I don't have to signal.

It's not just me then. I have noticed this on my car, particularly when turning left.

I've noticed this too thought it was just me - I was going to mention it at the car's first service but that's not for some time.

Only had mine for a couple of weeks but have already noticed twice that it has not cancelled after right turns. The strange thing is that the dash light stops blinking but you can still hear the 'click-click' of the indicator and I have to manually cancel it. If it keeps happening I'll take it in under warranty to get them to look at.

If you indicated by mistake how do you cancel it? When I was test driving an Octavia I couldn't cancel the indicator as the stalk moved back to the middle and the indicator kept flashing. The dealer said it must have been a fault.

Mine seems more noticacble now, I find it very hard to believe that this isn't a problem with them. Its gas to hear people saying "it happened to me"....nobody mentioned it before

Ya don't otherwise you'll end up indicating both ways :)

Well like you the stalk had moved back to the middle position so I had to hold it down just enough to temporarily get it to flash to the left. After letting go it it returned to the middle and nothing was 'indicating'.

The indicator switch has a lane-switching-feature. If you briefly flick the switch either way, it'll make three flashes automatically. When you turn the switch all the way, it'll function as usual.

I haven't tried cancelling the three automated flashes.. Maybe it can't be done?

But you can disable the feature using the maxidot-display (or at your dealer).

Had MKII VRS infront of me today and he/she was randomly indicating for no reason at all, on a straight first one way (which you couldn't go as it was a central reservation) then the other etc etc.

Did seem wierd.

That might be the answer then (in my case anyway) as I did wonder if I hadn't pushed the stalk far enough to get it to engage fully.

Had the VRs just overtaken you? If so, is it possible he was trying to tell you that you had an indicator going continuously? I sometimes go left right left right after overtaking someone with a stuck indicator. It usually seems to get them to cancel.

By the way I don't drive a VRs, have just ordered an Elegance Estate today though :D

Surely a quick left-right-left indication is a "Thanks" - used lots by lorry drivers...

Nope this was dual carrage way and they were definately randomly going 3 flashes each way multiple times.

I agree the quick flash either way is a thanks, but as i said this was defo busted or the driver was fondling the indicator stalk.

Either that or it was a brand new Octavia and the driver was working out how the one touch 3 flashes worked (having just set the option in Maxidot)...

The Dsg I Have Gaff Does It Aswell I Just Assumed It Was For Those Instances That Only Required Short Bursts Of The Flashers Such As Movin In Traffic Around...say.. A Parked Car Etc.

I reakon theres definitely something up with them....its really inconsistant. Have it booked in next week for that and a few other things.

I have also noticed this in my vRS, when turning left......must go to the dealer at somepoint.....

The dealer mentioned something about maybe a pin sticking, but maybe theres a bigger issue due to the number of people who have also seen it...time will tell.

I had car in yesterday, the dealer tried lubing the pin at the end but it occured afterwards...theres a new stalk ordered.

As posted, there is a minimum 3 blinks if the indicator is activated - and I don't think it matters if you fully engage or just "touch" the stalk - you'll get the 3 blinks.

The vRS driver above was probably just confused as to why his/her indicators wouldn't cancel. When I first test drove a new Octy I did the same thing coming off a roundabout - indicating one way then the next in my attempts to cancel the blinks...

It's a feature I now use a lot and I miss it when it's not there.
