My new car - Focus TDCI! ;)

Featured Replies

Yeah probably a bit younger KentStu as I didn't drive a minor, my dad did though, even had the pop out indicators too. In my dervs 45 has always been the domain of top gear unless you wanted a quick get away, in which case it was 4th. The TDCI is annoying to keep at dead on 30 due to the gearing as you feel you are naturally half way between the gears, 3rd is high revs, 4th is doing 35 or having ot change down. Grrr

Thank you andy, thats is my gripe the TDCI really is very very easy to stall.

Once you are going along at motorway speeds it's a top engine assuming the ECU fix is done:)

Oh something we found out too, check the condition of the bumpstops. Not a mjor issue but they get kinda noisey when they start to get a bit degraded.

Cheezemonkhai I agree - I think it's a laggy engine and suffers low down. There's a fellow in the office bought one and took it back to Ford - he thought it was knackered it's so bad - it's perfectly normal for that engine.

I know of at least 2 occasions where ours went back to ford too for the same and one of them the tech person even thought it was knackered. There was a watchdog about the engines randomly cutting out on lift off and stalling, hence the ECU fix which fixed the cut out, and impoved but didn't totally fix the stalling issues.

A decent tune that the friend tried saw the delivery stay linear but more torque down low which pretty much cured the stalling issues.

That comment was that it had been developed to keep petrol engine drivers happy on the move to derv, hence the petrol like power delivery :)

Anyway it's still a nice car, just as i said i wouldn't buy myself one.

I can see both sides of the fence. I've had a Focus TDCi. They're an excellent engine, very smooth and quiet. They are easy to stall though, very unlike a diesel and even most petrols. You do need to use a fair bit of 'right foot' to get going. Once you're accustomed to it though, there's no problem. Nice car Tom and nice spec. Here's a photo of my old one, it was a TDCi Sport with a few mods and subtle changes...:)

Nice 1liam.

Did you fit the st 170 fogs?

I thought those type only came standard on the st170.

No, it was a limited edition. It came with the fogs, but not with the ST (smoked) headlights or the ST honeycomb lower grille. The upper grille was changed too, from a black (standard) honeycomb to a grey one to match the lower ST one perfectly. Plus (from what you can see there), the colour-coded strips, the B-Pillar trim and the alloys... :)

Nice... ;)

Standard shocks ect?

remap?

Eibach springs, Mintex pads, electric folding mirrors, ST intake, panel filter, re-map etc...:)

Sweet.

Do you prefer your Furby to it?

Yep. I'm on my second Furby now...:)

Cool.

Laim, why do you prefer the Furby? Nice car btw, only the wheels aren't to my taste - the rest is just my sort of thing though.

The only thing I can think of is the extra grunt of the PD130

I suspect it's because he is not a sheep. Apparently only sheep buy Fords. Or so someone keeps telling me :rofl::rofl::rofl:

And what about the 3 series BMW that outsells the Mondeo ;)

I'll be doing a Fabia vRS vs Focus TDCI review in a few days.

Shoul dmake interesting reading, Tom

Make sure you post it in reviews, or someone will be moaning that it's in the wrong place ;)

I've got it!

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

And its absolutely fantastic. Power is great, as said it drives like a torque n/a. No massive surge of torque, just nice smooth power delivery.

Its really quick too. Would be on the tail of a standard Fabia vRS, and I'm confident I'll be a couple of car lengths ahead in the twisties.

Is very refined, quiet inside, no rattles, creaks, irritating noises, great stereo. Looks the part too.

He he.

Will be going for a long drive tonight - will be reviewing in the next few days!

And easy to stall? Pah, It will happily pull away with no revs, trundle along in 3rd at idle speed etc. Looking through the history its had a revised EGR valve and updated ECU code, so perhaps thats why, but I really don't understand what the complaints are about!

 from me!

great news tom, finally got yourself a proper car :D

If it isn't easy to stall check for a tuning box or remap. I've driven more than one of these, one extensively and if you are used to old school dervs they are a doddle to stall.

Glad you like it, and I can confirm that it will easily keep up with a furby vrs and be a good couple of car lengths ahead when going around the twisties. (I went for a drive in the estate one last night)

its easy too stall because the engine management shuts the fuel/injectors off when the engine revs are too low, 350-400 i think , it does this to protect the DMF from excessive low speed torque that would otherwise damage it , it is a PITA sometimes i agree and has caught me out on a few occasions:O

The build quality, the engine, the gearbox, the available options (on the specific cars) and the (unbelieveable) dealer support...:)

They were the reasons I sold my Skoda :rofl::rofl:
