225 Tyre Recommendation ( Updated views )

Featured Replies

First of all I don't want make this a use the search thread but it seems to have been a while since we had views on the current best tyres to opt for, mostly in the 225/45/17 form.

So the time has come to change the tyres so might opt for all four and go down the 225/45 route.

It seems that the two big players are GS-D3 F1's or P Zero ( Rosso? ) but there seems to be a 50/50 balance.

So updated views now people have used a few more mm and tyres would be great for all in the tyre buying view.

Toyo proxes T1-R..... fantastic so far (dry and wet) but a bit louder on the road.

i have some gs-d3 225/45/17 and think they are excellent.

haven't noticed an increase in road noise and found grip very good. will go for them again :)

Currently have some Toyo Proxes T-1R on my Octy at the moment - they are a massive step up from the Dunlop SP Sport 3000s the car came with.

Running Michelin pilot sport ...quiet and so far pretty good in the wet...no sharp turn in on corners but so far reasonably happy with them

GSD3 over the PZero Rosso any day!!

However... PZero Nero - deffo worthy of thought!

Hate to say it but maybe worth a look at buying from Kwik Fit?

Actually mytyres for 4 are £387, then I could take them to the local family business at around £5 a corner and get laser aligment don too for under £425.

Just had a set of 225/45/17 Vredestein Ultrac's fitted to my Octy.

Simply stunning wet grip, seriously amazing! Last two sets I had Toyo's but would never go back having felt how these things stick to the road.

Can only second what he said- the T1-R and T1-S are awesome tyres esp for the price.

If you're more a trackday/dry weather racer, then camskil have some decent deals on toyo R888's- semi slick road legal gripmonsters:D

mixing at the moment. replaced the rears with GSD3 and running michelin pilot sports on the front. initial impressions were - much noisier, but got used to it now. not sure what i will do when i need to replace the next pair.

Pilot exalto are nice and quiet and a good compromise. The pilot sports are supposed to be very very nice though :)

i paid £100 a corner fitted for my GSD-3's :)

In order, I'd have, P Zero Nero, Exalto PE2, F1 GSD3. I don't like Toyos when the weather gets cold.

Horses for courses, but I really didn't get on with the Ultracs when I tried them on my Leon... changed them for GSD3's and didn't look back until I tried some Nero's!!

Guys, just wondering what brand are Gs-D3's. I am in urgent need of 2 front tyres on my mk 2 rs. Only 8k miles done on the Bridgestones!!!

Always used Toyos although they dont last that long, must be the way I drive or is it the 350 bhp they are trying to control.

Seriously they do seem one heck of a lot of tyre for the money & Ive only ever really found there limitations on the track after a few laps on both the Octy & the Scoob. As a good fast road tyre without paying tooooo much they are IMO ideal

dunlop sp 9000,very good tire!

toyo works fine too-less expensive.....

Check out the classified section, I have a full set of 5 225/45/17 Goodyear F1 GSD3's for sale, 2 brand new never fitted ( and as a bonus they are XL Rated) and 3 PW in virtually new condition, all 7mm or more tread!!

These tyres are absolutely awesome, I have had 3 sets of these on my previous car over 60K and I just cannot fault them at all, only selling them as I was going to fit them to my new car but I have swapped wheels with Damo for those stunning black 18" TT quattro wheels. I am after around

i have GSD3 on my A4 (235x45) and they are great would recommend them :)

Another vote for Toyo Proxes. Better grip and way less road roar than the Dunlop and Michelin mixture the car was on when I bought it.

My experience on the Fabia is that Pzero Neros are by far the favourites for outright performance. I liked the Pilot Exalto PE2s but for the money its impossible to recommend them imho. The best value for money tyre imo is the Kuhmo Ecsta Sports, but when i bought them they were £45 a corner compared to £65 a corner for the Neros. Now the prices are similar I'd have the Neros everytime.

my original tyres are 205/50/17 and there are not that many good tyres to choose from :thumbdwn:

I see many off you change for 225/45/17 what is the resoning behind this ????,do any of you go down the 215/45/17???? is this a closer match for the oe tyre

Alan m:thumbup:

Cost maybe? When I was buying the Toyos, the tyre fitter tried to get me to go with V rating rather than the standard W "because they'd be cheaper", until he found out it was something like £70 for the Vs and £72 for the Ws.

Many of the Octy's have the 225/45/17 as the oe tyre, and it is a closer match than the 215/45 ;)
