:thumbup:Another 'off' convert here, did it while the missus was in tescoQ

Just "activated" mine to

Just "activated" mine to

I guess it's time for Skoda to activate it in factory and put "off" letters on it. Maybe on facelift, we'll see.

Or,

maybe they read this forum and after all this they get angry and dissable it on electronic board:mad:

Joined the club.

The most time consuming thing to do this, was to find my swiss army knife in the car cause of so many places to look.

Did the mod on the 06 octy, now have done it on the 08 one. Did it waiting at the traffic lights the other day. took all of 1 minute with no tools except for fingernails!

Another convert here.. So simple and yet so satisfying

Me too! Have been previously annoyed by the lack of an off switch. It felt so wrong to be going at it with a knife, but it works a treat!

fantastic mod... thanks!

Simple, easy and cheap. But enough about me :)

Nice mod!

Nice mod!

Thank you

I want to unveil some additional secrets ;) .

The front surface of the button is made of transparent material with black layer on the top. I made the text "ON/OFF" by removing this black layer. Thus, if there was possible to lit the LEDs, all would go great  .

BTW I'm sure, that there is no voltage on both LEDs. But I'm not sure, if their resistors are not populated, or they are disabled somehow in software (VAG-COM, etc.). For me, right answer is the first (because the button itself is ready for use ).

My car is pretty new (3 months), and I would not to :finger: the warranty by opening the unit. I hope, that some of you (beyond the warranty period) would do this, and will solder the missing resistors. Looking forward for your activities...

Regards!

:thumbdwn: No transparent layer on mine!

I think he means the transparent layer is underneath the black you can see on the face of the button and that you have to scratch the words 'on/off' into the black button's plastic top covering/face, leaving the words effectively transparent if you were to look through it.

:thumbdwn: No transparent layer on mine!

I can't imagine, that your button is different from mine  .

May be I didn't wrote correctly in English :o .

I'll try to say in different way...

The front part of the button (this, with D-shape) is made of transparent material, coated with thin black layer on the visible side (where the finger touches).

If you take closer look at back side of this part (D-shape), it should look somehow whitish. I have proved the transparency with very bright red LED inside the button. In full darkness, I saw some very small red dots on the outer surface (because of micro-defects in the black layer).

After engraving the rectangle for LED, I got convinced in transparency of the button.

 Chavdarlk. OK - I now understand what you've done. Congratulations on a very neat job; there's no way I could do a similar thing!

By the way, your English is excellent.

Another on/off modifier. Nice one

  • 2 weeks later...

And another - blooming marvelous! :D

ECON light on = Air conditioning compressor OFF, fan running

ECON light off = Air conditioning compressor ON, fan running

NO lights and "off" in the temp displays = Air conditioning compressor and fan OFF

I'm sure I've missed something, but when I push my econ button, both auto & econ lights are on.

How do I switch off JUST air con?

(I've just done the mod as well.)

My manual states that the bottom part is for the auxiliary heating as mentioned in a previous post.

I asked the dealer about this when I read it and it's a setting for the scandinavian countries where it gets ridiculously cold. It basically pre-heats the engine to help starting and save wear on the engine itself. In Canada I saw a load of cars with kettle leads sticking out the grilles and it was sort of the same: they plug the car in before they start in the mornings and it warms the engine up.

So in essence, you won't get that feature in the UK cos it doesn't warrant it. Basically, there's no point!
