How to activate de ON/OFF center switch on the CLIMATRONIC

Recommended Posts

I'm sure I've missed something, but when I push my econ button, both auto & econ lights are on.

How do I switch off JUST air con?

(I've just done the mod as well.)

Try pressing one (or 2) of the air direction buttons. I have feet & face activated & the auto button turns off (but ECO stays on).

If I understand it correctly this OFF-button switches the fan unit off. The A/C is switched off by using the ECON-button.

Because the cooler-unit would freeze without the fan sucking warm air through it, it will also stop when the fan stops. This also happens when the outside air isn't warm (in winter time). Talking about winter, the ECON-button also deactivates the PTC-heater in the diesel cars. Thus saving energy in both summer and winter times. And that's why the button is called ECONomy.

By the way, could the other "unmarked" button in the centre be the DUAL-button, which sets the both sides of the car to the same temperature as the driver's side? With the dual-mode, you only need to turn one dial to change both sides' temperature setting.

Do you have a part number for the PTC heater ?

Did the mod and it works like a charm.

i did it to the "dual" but it seems not working.

Octavia II TDI 2.0 elegance. 2008

Me too! A old credit card was used to pry out the 'off' one. And then my Leatherman to cut back of tab. Very useful now if you get that dual working.... instead of having to hold down Auto to re sync temp.

The lower button is not "DUAL", as you have seen on some other VAG cars!

It is for external heater, if it is installed :).
