Warranty question

Featured Replies

My car was in for some work today, amongst this was the grease to the gearbox to stop the knocking which is on a service bulletin. They can do this under warranty however they told me the gearbox mount  is loose and I need a new one before they can apply the grease to stop the knocking noise. This isn't under warranty as the remap to the car has added stress to the gearbox/drivetrain. Is this a legitimate point from my dealer and if so how much roughly is the gearbox mount including workshop time needed to fit

Thanks, Chris.

£35 plus VAT for the lower part

£46 plus VAT for the bonded rubber part

Dunno about fitting time, about an hour I would expect.

However - is it loose or worn, they are two very different terms.

Loose might just require tightening

Worn would require replacement.

Just out of interest Hellfire. How many miles were you on, when you remapped the car? And what are you on now? Thanks.

And which gearbox mount? *the* gearbox mount or the dogbone?

Also, whats the service bulletin about "knocking"

ive got a problem with mine where theres a clunk in the drive-train when changing gear etc...

sounds fair enough to me, if a car is making more power then the engine will be trying harder to rotate so putting more load on the mounts.

Remapped @ 5k miles, now on 40k.

I was told it was the gearbox mount, not the dogbone. and that it was "loose".

I'd say the dealer is being fair. They could have voided the entire warranty due to the remap so I wouldn't complain if I were you. You effectively make the choice when you got the car remapped.

I am not complaining, I am simply questioning, just to clear up any confusion. If they won't cover it then fair enough, just wanted costs etc to repair.
