I think one-touch indicating's great - it encourages the use of indicators for those that are too ignorant to use them normally. For those that use them anyway, it's less effort when changing lanes.

Really? Surely it just means that their signal becomes misleading/pointless?

For those that use them anyway, it's less effort when changing lanes.

How is it less effort? My biggest issue with them is the fact they continue to signal after I want the signal to stop which will likely lead to confusion and possibly an accident. If anything, it would encourage me to signal less ;)

Try driving a Vauxhall, very much annoying as it works counter-intuitively :(

I had a Fabia courtesy car once - driving at night I indicated to overtake a lorry on a dual carriageway, pulled out, thought the indicator was still going so pushed it the other way to cencel it  it then flashed lots towards the lorry, flicked it the other way and it flashed lots the other way.

Confusing and dangerous.

I think this is a great function and I use it all the time on the motorway or Dual Carriage way its not that practical on turn offs and in the city but on the motorway it is great, I think the quiet noise that the indicator makes on the Octy is far more annoying.

There appears to be some confusion here, the 1 touch is a light touch to the indicator stalk, and the indicators flash 3 times.

People are talking about then staying on .

SWMBO's Smart and my sons Golf and roadie have them. they are an excellent idea for overtaking. Specially when the flat cap , cardigan and slipper driver forgets to switch it off, I dont know which is worse this or the BM drivers that dont use them :(

I never use my 1-touchers.

When changing lane you should continue to indicate until completely in the next lane - if it goes off half way across someone might not notice you moving and move into you :thumbdwn:

Went to Lancashire and back with my colleague in his BMW the other day and was quite impressed with these. One-touch, 3 blinks, job's a good 'un.

He used them all the way there, and all the way back, too. Not sure if it was just because I was in the car :D :P

Not convinced Steve,:sofahide: three blinks gives people plenty of notice of your intentions, and time to move over, the highway code just says

"112: If you need to change lane, first use your mirrors and check your blind spots (the areas you are unable to see in the mirrors) to make sure you will not force another driver or rider to swerve or slow down. When it is safe to do so, signal to indicate your intentions to other road users and when clear move over." I guess its down to personal driving style (and laziness for me)

Although RoSPA/IAM recommend giving 3 blinks *before* undertaking the manouevre to allow other people to take/digest and adjust their driving plan to accommodate your intentions.... :D

Chris

At the risk of being flamed, there is only one situation which requires more than 3 blinks, and that's when there is currently no gap, and you're "reserving" a place in a queue. Otherwise, if 3 blinks aren't enough, you aren't heeding the "do not cause other road users to have to slow, swerve etc." bit from the Highway Code, imho.

3 blinks to signal your intentions and leave the indicator on during the manouevre? Can't see how that is in contradiction with the HC's advice ;)

Apologies Chris, I've now realised the difference between one-touch indicators and the ones in my Fabia that indicate three times when changing lanes :D

I agree, the one-touch are stupid. I borrowed a 1-series to go to the shops and was indicating all over the place, probably causing no end of trouble in my wake.

Perhaps it's my fault on the terminology - this is a 3 flash mod.

Some of us do know how to use the indicators in a BMW  but tbh they drive me mad, more often than not I end up pushing it down further to make it stay on longer while I am turning and then end up pushing it back up to turn it off, but I tend to end up indicating the opposite way instead  I bet some people think I'm going loopy  this might just be the reason why BMW drivers mainly don't use their indicators perhaps :D or maybe they just want to fit the image of the badge
