Automatic Gearbox and Superchip

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever had a 1.8t engine chipped with the automatic gearbox? Seems no probs for the engine but will the 'box be able to handle the fairly big increase in torque?

Cheers

Jim.

Mike - KLB has had his auto Jabba'd and I don't think he has any problems .

I'm sure he will be along to post his own thoughts in due course .

Welcome Jim

Auto tuning is no problem, our very own klb has had his auto tuned at jabba and is very happy. The auto does strange things when being dyno'd but the end result is just as good.

Thanks for the replies. Forgive my lack of knowledge here, but are the RS and Elegance versions of the 1.8T engine exactly the same except for the chip?

Got my new motor on order, so trying to read up a bit about it.

To all intents and purposes - yes. See this answer in our FAQ section for more info.

A big welcome to Briskoda. :D Could you tell us a bit more about what you have on order?

Jim,

I've replied to your PM; here's the gist of it:-

The auto box should be able to handle the extra power; I've not noticed any problems with mine. Mike at JabbaSport has tuned a few Golfs with the 1.8T and autoboxes; one of them is even being raced (and runs NOS!).

Downshifts aren't quite as smooth as they were - the extra power comes in with a bit of a thump sometimes, but it's only a problem when "making progress" ;)

Welcome to Briskoda
