Shock absorber question

Featured Replies

Back to my handling probs - are the shocks fitted to all Octys the same, or do they depend on engine type/performance, etc?

There are several different types.

What I'd expected, but I was more likely to get an accurate answer here than in my (French) garage. Are they interchangeable?

Wouldn't have thought so as some are for 4x4 some for lighter engined cars.

Take it the Koni FSD were out of the price range then.

It will normally depend on which engine you have, weight variations etc.

the actual difference is in the damping rates and then length of the piston rod

The Koni were right out - wish I could, but... I think it's going to be stock in the end. And let's face it, a 90hp diesel isn't exactly THAT sporty! Now if it'd been a VRS, that's different... ;)

it doesn't really matter how powerfull it is...... it will drive better with good quality dampers on there

IIRC there are 7 different spring/damper combinations listed for the Octavia.

I think we've yet to work them all out though

Go on the only way you can be sure is to fit the FSDs ;)

If you'd just got my bank statement, you wouldn't even THINK of it! I spent half the afternoon on the phone to the bank mamager! :o   :(

Been to the Koni France website - wanted to check out the prices anyway( ), and as far as I can tell, FSDs aren't even available in France! So that's the end of that. Pity, I was just getting psyched up to do a bank.

I am sure Awsome or somebody would deliver to france :)

i'm in!!!

you dont necessarily have to get fsd dampers..... give the sachs performance ones a try... they are about

Cheers, Tom, but the price is the main thing at the moment - like I said, I got a shock (another one!) when my bank statement came through...

She's in the shop right now, getting new shocks all round - but stock ones, I'm afraid to say. And if I skat off again, you can say you told me so! :o

told you so waiting in the wings. :D

I had a drive in an FSD demo golf MK IV and comapred to my octy on stock the improvement is massive. The golf was otherwise stock too.

now then peoples, bit of a handling query for you all, I want to reduce body roll and brake dive in an Octavia vRS mk1 but I don

Well, I've got her back, took her to work and back this morning - about 80 miles - and she feels great - it still cost an arm and a leg, about
