Fabia fuel filler thingey

Featured Replies

OK - the little knob just inside the filler hole - what is it there for??

Someone said on here that it lets more fuel in if you push it - I tried it the other day and it does seem to.

Is it safe to do that, and how do you use it - push it once or keep it pushed somehow

It works for me

Fill up as usual; then push and hold with the nozzle, you should hear air escaping, then top up.

Best not to do it on a really hot day though.

Tried this last night. Done nearly 150 miles since then and 4 runs up the 1/4 mile at the pod and sitting in the waiting snake to get back on track. Still hasn't budged off the full mark yet! :D

How did the 1/4 mile go? care to divulge the results?

Nice little trick isn't it... :D

Should you want to cram in the extra few litres all the time and not have to spend time releasing the vacuum, see here:

See thread in My Performance. :D:thumbup:

OK, the vent 'thingy' is obviously there for a good reason because otherwise it just bumps up the price of the car. So, would one of our resident Skoda tecchies like to tell us what it is all about, and why we shouldn't remove it or otherwise bypass it when refuelling? TYIA. :)

I understand that the vent 'thingey' is to prevent overfilling of the tank in order to allow expansion space for the fuel. There has been much argument as to whether this expansion space is necessary on a diesel car. Apparently petrol is more volatile and produces more gas than diesel so it requires a space to expand into. I have done the 'ventectomy' on several VW diesels and our current Fabia tdi. There have been no problems only the shock to my wallet when filling up for the first time after carrying out the operation. It does dramatically increase the car's range. I used to get about 600 miles from a Polo and at least 550 out of our Passat.

Incidentally on the Fabia the vent valve is to the right of the fuel filler, not the left as shown in the photographs at http://www.cst.cmich.edu/users/willi1gl/VW/ventectomy/

I think the photos are of a Golf but everything else is exactly as shown except you push down on the tab, not up.
