OK, then, I think they're ace :D

Getting off topic, summarising from all I've read (because I haven't driven everything), there are other cars in the class which edge it in terms of out-and-out driver involvement, and there are cars that edge it in terms of ultimate pace (although yahoo reports it has class leading brakes). It doesn't look as flash as *any* of it's competitors - which can be taken as good or bad.

So as a drive - almost as good as anything out there but has additional benefits of proper family car space (as a family man this is key) and less extreme fuel consumption than some of the competition.

Having done a fair few miles over the festive period I have been forced to deviate from my usual favourite of V-Power. I've tried BP Ultimate and Esso Super 98, neither of which seemed to suit the car as well as the V-Power.

Sorry, mate. My MK2 vRS estate feels well faster than my MK1 hatch. You just got used to turbo diesel poke and have forgotten what petrol motors feel like. To drive, the grip level is far higher, the gearbox has properly spaced ratios and better action, the traction control controls traction and doesn't just stop you, the turn-in is better, the body-roll is reduced and the ride quality is improved.

As a drive, it's *far* superior to the MK1.

I can agree with this and I have only been a passenger in a mkII.

The fabia is what it is, and I love mine but I would agree with what this bloke has put. At this moment in my life I need something economical semi reasonable insurance etc and that is why I have my fabia.

I hope my next car will be a used mkII octy.

Firstly I've driven the mk1 VRs on numerous occasions and its no where near as rapid as the Mk2, plus it has that issue with the sump grounding going over humps in the road.

Secondly, I have to disagree ref build quality. Mines fine, every bit as sturdy and squeek-free as an equivalent Audi or Golf ( I drove an A3 and a Golf Gti before buying the VRs).

If you enjoy whinging about build quality buy a Fiat - I had a Coupe turbo and the wife had a Punto HGT after owning either of those 2 mobile disaters, and the woefully incompetent dealers, you'd never moan about VAG build quality again!!

Did you actually see the car before you bought it ? If so they why did you buy it?

200bhp. where it is i'd like to know?

If you think its down on power get it rolling roaded.

Maybe you'd be better posting a single thread about the issues you've had with the car instead of posting negative stuff in each and every thread where Octavia is mentioned.

I can understand where your coming from, I've been pi$$ed with mine many's of times due to reoccuring issues, rear seats rattling, suspension creaking, alarm not working, indicators not resetting etc etc but you could have the same with any car, its the sorting them out that needs addressing.
