hi all,

having searched for info ive read quite a lot on possible disc upgrades for the octy vRS. i know there is a group buy on at the moment but i wont be upgrading for a while yet.

black diamond discs seem to be a popular choice. ive never actually seen them on a car, what do they look like? im not sure how they will look and more importantly perform.

any other good cross drilled discs on the market?

i dont use my car for track days, its only road driving.

they look like round discs with holes and grooves in...

sorry if that sounds sarcastic... but they all look the same..

add ds2500 pads and you will be sorted....

oh and 4.1 fluid.

dont use 3000 pads unless for track use..

Not just me Ian, so :finger: !

As you may of guessed, I asked the same, as I wondered if they were black throughout...if not I could see no reason for the black coating, the "protect from corrosion" is bobbins as Paul says, once braked they are back to shiny iron colour. They arrive in as much oil as a yumyums belly buster, so it's just a gimmick :D

But they do work well, especially with the DS2500's, but you have to get fluid unless you like your pedals spongy after a few applications. :thumbdwn:

So what fluid do I need to change to if I get DS2500s and OEM discs? What's the standard for the Octy, is it 4.0?

Nick,

Used castrol super 4.1, DT have it @ 7GBP or so per litre, the system holds 1.75litres, so order 3 litres.

Small storm brewing over the seemingly widespread view that flush = pour a bit in let a bit come out...

But the Castrol super is higher/equiv boil point of a 5 fluid so it's good to get anyway.

Alternative fluid is up to 20 a litre IIRC.

To be fair a push though of 1litre or so is pretty good, but not great as old fluid is caught in various chambers,

Will report back soon with more...but fluid and DS2500's are a good combo. Discs of course add to the pudding, but not essential for fast road, just very handy if the mood takes you to stop.[/quote']

So yours truly decides to have a read up on brake fluid - well how damn ironic can you get? Type "dot4.1 brake fluid uk" into Google and you get this:

There's no escape!!!
