Remote Key Battery?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, sorry I expect this has been asked before but I can't find anything on a search.

On a 52 plate octavia the remote locking stopped working, I changed the battery and it worked fine, but only for a week or so then stopped again. I bought another battery thinking maybe it was a dud but the same happened. I tried it in the spare key (which ran out of juice years ago) but no luck.

One thing, the keys both had a 3v watch battery in them, but someone I know with an octavia has 2 very thin 1.5v ones in his. I can't see this would make any difference because it worked for 5 years with the single battery but thought I'd mention it anyway.

Any ideas? Grateful fro any help Cheers.

The early ones had 2 batteries in them. I have experienced on more than one occasion that the remotes start draining their batteries (some sort of internal fault) and the only cure is to get a new remote. Pre facelift (glass headlamp cars)remotes will not work with the 2001 model year (plastic headlamp) cars. For coding the new remote you can either buy the instructions off e-bay, look in the handbook or do a search on here.

Hi - thanks a lot for the info - bit dissapointed if it needs a whole new remote, especially since we've had 3 skodas in the family and this is the first problem of any description we've ever had!

So if it really does need a new remote where do I get one from? It's a 52 so post-facelift and the coding shouldn't be a problem because I've had a read through the handbook and it seems simple enough. Can you use any one with a blank key or can you only buy these from skoda. Cheers

You can get yourself a key fob from eBay, make sure you get the right frequency. The blade from your existing key should fit on a new fob.

Coding info can be found on my Fabia website.

Ahh so if you didn't have a flip key then I think you'll need to have a blade made. They are cheap on eBay

Again, thanks. So I can use that if I get a replacement folding one. But since ours is a solid key, it's hard to describe but as I said it looks like the top section with the key itself would fit onto the ebay one I posted. I'd have thought that would save cutting a new key, but not sure if it would fit on especially with an extra button!
