Hi Mike, and welcome to Briskoda

Sounds like you're about to make the right decision (just like I did back in October - you won't regret it!)

All of your questions can be answered by using the search facility on this most excellent forum, there are separate areas for insurance, tuning, etc.

If you have any specific questions that you feel haven't been covered before, ask away as there is always an expert ready to answer.

(Word of advice - just don't start discussing colours of cars!)

another convert in the making, good to hear.

For a start suggest you try trawling through the FAQ (Frequently asked question) area on the site. This may answer a few of your more basic questions

re Insurance, first place to start is to ring your present company for detyails & a quote, just guess the rough age of car you will be buying & value

Many people have gone to Liverpool Victoria, they are very friendly when it comes to modded cars.

Re buying, just start trawling your local papers & the Internet to get ideas. Skoda also have a facility on their web site where you can do a national search through all Skoda dealers.

Tuning, just trawl through the tuning forum. Basically the car is the same mechanicals as VW/Audi&Seat so whatever they can do we can do. Jabbasport & AMD seem to be the most popular tuners amongst the Skoda brigade. a simple Map will give about 220-230 bhp without changing anything else, then its just a case of how deep is your pocket, many people have achied 300+ & std internals will go to about 360, then theirs the brakes, the suspension, the empty bank account

whats faster yellow or black hehe

Yellow

;)

Depends if its a 4x4 or an RS  "sorry guys just had to get that one in"

Yellow

On tuning have a look at the FAQ in the Performance section - there is a thread there with the title "Octavia Modifications" (I think) which gives a pretty full run through the various mods that have been done / can be done.

BTW - get the Octy - you won't regret it!

is there a travisRS on here with an octavia ?? i saw his car at the Ring last year on the easter weekend but then we decided to crash lol so didnt get to see much of his lovely car

Hi and Welcome to Briskoda!

yep there's a TaviaRS.......in fact he replied to your choice of colour......

Octy RS is group 16 on the the insurance rating.......best to trawl around for quotes.

Likewise trawl around for deals.....some crakcing ones out there......new Octavia is apparently due in Sept this year so, if you can wait until then I reckon some even better deals will be in the offing.

Enjoy the site.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Did it look anything like my car?

What were you in?

  • Author

why yes it was your car i remember you from scoobynet actually hehe

i was in one of the many clio's that were there that day and in the red 172 that managed to crash at the first bloody corner !!!! (i wasnt driving lol)

managed to get around only once that day in my own car but went out with 2 mad english blokes in an m5 that was rapid :D

It wasnt Harj in the M5 per chance ?

  • Author

they ran a ring driving school over there i think

Not Harj then, hes UK based

I remember the hordes of Clios :D

They weren't happy about being overtaken by my little 1.4 16v :D

I remember a Clio 16v turbo conversion, quick in a straight line! Really helps if you know the circuit though (650 laps so far, in the last 26 months) :D

lol yeah i had warned them about your car :D

was a lovely day once id caled down abit lol

erm yeah there was 2 turbo valvers both runing 270+ bhp one was overboosting all the time tho after only having the kit fitted the day before we set off and the other burnt the clutch out lol

we had a bloke called edde from luxumburg in a 1.7 td astra overtaking bikes well it was a hire car lol

If it was a bluey grey M5, UK plates, it was my mate Matt Oz. He sold the M5 later on to Harj.

Doesn't run a driving school over there though

  • Author

i cant remeber the colour they were 2 big blokes who liked talking in very stupid german accents

im sure they ran a driving school

i asked them if they had ever crashed and he replied HA me never

then we are sure we got to see it going home on the tunnel with a big crease down the back :D

LOL! Sounds like Matt and Askew :D

Rear bumper damage was it with creasing to the OSR panel? That'd be Wipperman, he got all crossed up through there and hit the barriers.

That's the wierd thing about M5s, put it in "sport" mode and it becomes much more responsive in throttle respones and steering, but you can't turn the tcs off. Leave it in normal mode and you can. Guess which he was doing at the time? ;)

  • Author

it sounds like the one lol scared the **** out of me lol but still felt safe even tho he was only driving with his little finger and the speedo was normally around the 140 mark lol

Remember one of them boiled his power steering fluid as well. It was a grey one with the paint stripped off one of the wings and some missing off the bonnet.

Had a chat with them about it.

Jon I'm worried, your lap count stands a reosnable chance of overtaking my post count !!!

When i changed from my Cup to the Octavia vRS it was the same price even though the Clio was group 13 and the vRS 16

What did you think of your test drive in a vRS.

  • Author

yup yup was a nice lad turbo cost him 6k lol and some people poured brake fluid over his car

  • Author

it was really good actually first turbo road car i had ever driven ride was good performance was nice not earth shattering but that can and would change, interior was solid (makes a change) and seemed like a not a bad spec but there was just something i liked about it :)

unlike the fabia vrs uck worst car i have ever driven !!! without a shadow of a doubt even worse than the N/A diesel vecta pool car at work lol
