golf gti vrs fabia vrs

Featured Replies

There is an average of 17bhp between the remapped, 170- 175 for the 130, and 185 to 195 for the 150 and also being less peaky . Its more than the turbo , its the intercooler too(FMIC) as there will be cooler denser air, it might not leave a 130 for dust but when you get to speeds of 90mph upwards it will start to pull away steady all the way to top speed.

my brother has just picked his fabia vrs up last week and yesterdat out of curiosity we put a pd tuning box on it that was taken off my g/f's lupo 1.4 tdi pd.. it smoked a lot but went like **** .we had a play from rolling start to 70 mph on a local empty duel carrigeway i could only pull about 3/4 to 1 car length in front in my revo'd octy Vrs i was 2 up to his 1 but i was more than impressed with it

An interesting thread!!

I'd expect a remapped fabia to lose little ground against a new Golf Gti. I agree with hellfire on this one but sadly haven't had a play with a new gti........yet!

On the other hand (as someone posted earlier in the thread) throw

hi people

can i just ask a quick question, is every body on about the same mk golf gti, because the mk 4 can come with different engins.

1997 1.8 GTi - 125 BHP

1997 1.8 T GTi - 150 BHP

2002 1.8 T GTi (180ps) - 180 BHP

2002 1.8 GTi Anniversary - 180 BHP

1999 2.0 GTi - 115 BHP

and i am sure a remapped Vrs will be quicker than a few of these.

I think he's talking about the MKV

I'm pretty sure they're all on about the Mk5 197bhp version. All I'd say is aim a bit lower like a Mini Cooper S maybe as they aren't out of reach ;) However the CTR I played with didn't like me up to 117 before we parted ways on private land of course. Oh yeah and the CTR had a carbon fibre bonnet hehe. Anyway I think the fabia is a great car but unless you wanna spend the cash isn't going to compete with cars at the level of the GTi. However I do like to see what it can do sometimes but I know when to just wave and smile. I moved over for a GTi that was behind me in traffic and to see how quickly it picked up speed was very impressive indeed and I don't think I could've kept up if I tried.

Has my wife got the only Fabia vRS that dies a death at 90 ?

Struggles after 110 too.

(All private roads)

Its fair to say the Fabia vRS is about as aerodynamic as a house.

Mine dies at about 110 too.....doesn't stop pullin like a train up until then

Mine does an extra 35/40 + more than that. And mines standard.... (on the clocks)

It will go more...I've had it up to 125 but it was struggling after 110. Are you seriusly saying that yours can do near 150mph?

According to the clocks it can, which i'd knock off about 6-10 mph of that, to make it more realistic.

Skoda claim 127mph top speed which I assume is an average of a few runs in 2 directions measured with accurate timing gear :D

Chris

I've not thrashed my furbie vRS as hard as it'll go (yet), but I have seen 120mph on the speedo and it was still pulling hard... I've not noticed a flat spot around 90 at all. It could be perception... because the speedo shifts from 10mph increments to 20mph increments, it might seem as if it's not pulling as hard as it was.

Or, I might be talking carp. :)

FAO: Those who think it "pulls hard"

What car did you have before the Fabia?

Yes, 127 I'd say is dead accurate. Probably a bit less.....

Not for those who have a few tweaks here and there though.. :P

Mr Dragoned Superb will pull an (indicated) 140mph before I back off, it will still be accelerating though, it really is quite suprising how strong the pd engine pulls at high speed.

I'd guess that an indicated 140mph is probably only actualy 125 or so, but it's still pulling strong, and thats comparing it to my Gtir/ MR2 Turbo etc.

Wow, that's some difference, going from a MR2 Turbo and GTI-r to a Superb.

Agreed, the PD engine's have always been known to pull well.

mine wont pull beyond 130, and i once managed about 135 down a long downhill straight. In reality it's no faster @ the top, just smoother & quicker getting there.

Time to kill some myths?

No Fabia will do in excess of 135 mph in reality unless you have serious mods (hybrid turbo etc etc) with the exception of the older longer gear ratio'd fabia's that may see 140 @ a push.

No Fabia just remapped will get more than 165-175 bhp, with the PD160 Intake & Green filter and a perfect map on a perfect engine you may see 180 bhp, but your pushing the limits then. As previously mentioned, any Hollywood style readouts you see should be taken with a pinch of salt ( mine showed as 195 bhp  ).

The Fabia vRS remapped will keep up with a Cooper S and full fat Clio 172,182 from 20 upwards.

The Fabia vRS will loose to any equally modified Cooper S or 172,182 or a 172 Cup, 182 cup especially when modified.

The Fabia vRS doesn't get anhilated by a 200PS Golf GTi but doesn't exactly stay with it either, it will pull away, and so it should!

The Fabia vRS is as aerodynamic as a brick.

The Fabia vRS is economical, nippy for what it is. Has 5 doors and very unpractical coloured seats.

:)

Rant over.

I've owned some silly cars in my time, from Skylines and Pulsars, Mr2's and Supras, to Integrales and Alfas, SD1's and more!

Sadly I had to buy a more practical car when I started working as a taxi driver!!

I've still got a 3.0V6 Alfa and a Supercharged V8 SD1 though!:D

What car did you have before the Fabia?

A 1.4 8V Escort.....now you understand where i'm coming from. To get to 100mph you would need about 2 miles of downhill road!

Having had Fiat Coupe 20VTurbo, Rover TomCat 220Turbo, Cavalier GSi Turbo, BMW 540i, Golf GT TDi115 I can confirm that the VRs is not a fast car at all it is merely a warm hatch.

When I drove the VRs it felt brisk in the gears (similar to the GT TDI115 maybe a bit quicker but hardly noticable if Im honest), up to about 80mph beyond that it is not quick which is similar to the GT TDI115. All the other cars I have had start to get into their stride as you clear the 80 and acceleration is strong up until about 130 from there onwards it does take quite a while.

Note as you can see from the car list they are what Id assume most people would assume are fast (ish) cars but all were purchased for £6-7k.

The next step beyond any of these cars is clearly the old M5/M3 E55AMG/911 C2/911 Trubo/Jag XJR/ etc etc but these are very costly to run but all bar the 911 & 911 Turbo are possible for under £11k.

Yes to breach 140 you need a lot of power & a very slippery shape.

Also remember torque = acceleration power = top speed.

It is nice to own different cars like you list and the VRs relatively is a downgrade but its benefits over many other cars are its practically and frugality low insurance & low raod tax.

Basically it pulls at the strings of us tight wads out there knowing that you are still getting good performance without many of the cost drawbacks.

On the other hand (as someone posted earlier in the thread) throw £300-£400 at the golf for a remap and you have 240+bhp on your hands(i think thats what the quotes are anyhow.)

TBH i wouldn't bother with the R32 just buy the Golf GTI and chip it up, on the other hand it would be interersting to see how the front wheels would cope with the power and torque?

The new Leon Cupra Has the 240bhp 2.0t Lump in there and that is FWD!!!;)

I had a race with a Leon 20V Turbo. I think 150bhp. We were pullin' the same, was quite surprised. And he was driving like a maniac on the road too.

I also had a race with the new Golf GTi...rolling upto about 100km/h I was doin' okay....then he kicked my a$$ all the way to Pluto :D
