I am currently driving a 406 estate company car which has never inspired any exciting driving experiences except for the challenge of how hard i can bury my right foot into the well owrn carpet to try and catch up with the man in th mondeo.

Ive had a test drive in a VRS estate and was well impressed. I need a car to keep up with my bosses BMW 330d and then hopefully need a car to overtake (possible remap- who knows).

does anyone out there think that and Otcavia VRS is the car for the job. I am already getting grief in the office foir buying the skoda. i just ask them if they are a sheep or a wolf!

I am looking to buy in 2 weeks!

Is the Skoda VRS worth the office grief?

Is the Pope a Catholic?

Welcome to Briskoda.

Yes, go for it !

is it tru that the Octy vRS will lose a good BMW?

it is really imortant to me cos he is alrerady taking the mick even before i've bought one and i'd love to wipe the smile off his smug double barrelled face!

im even thinking about having it chipped prior to taking it. the dealer says that they will do it for me ensure the warranty remains valid. It seems worth it for the cost of

Yes.

& welcome to the site.

I wouldn't bank on the warranty.

But yes, you'll see quite a few beemers in the "my Skoda scalped a ..." thread. Including a scalp of mine :D

Get it Jabba'd if you can! 225-230bhp without any other mods should give a 330d a run for its money. (Huck can advise on that first hand). Also get their electronic boost controller fitted so that you can turn the tuning back to standard should you ever let your bosses drive the car. That will really confuse them. :D

  • Author

i guess the controller will confuse the missus aswell when she drives it.

how long does it take jabba to mod the car?

is it variable control or on or off or is it variable control?

can the rest of the car take the strain of the extra power when it has been remapped? do i need to do anything else along with the remapping

Great site by the way!

Remap would take approx. 3 hours...Mike is a perfectionist.

Boost controller has a max and min setting but is infinite in between, if you know what I mean.

Lots of peeps have been remapped and are running everything else standard. Once you get use to it and start pushing you then see things which you may want to improve....other wise it's well up to it.

DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You wont regret it

In My Opinion the Jabba map is the way to go as its done on the rollers & will be personal to youre car, also other things can be tweaked slightly, ie raise the rev limiter a bit. Anything that is just downloaded or plugged into your car is generic to all similar cars, also just because it says it gives you 220 or 230 brake do you actually know, The Jabba map gives you a read out at the end.

Re boost controllers, not essential, I didnt bother, just use the right foot to control it. I think fitting cruise would be a better bet for economy & yer license, I continually find the car creeping up to 100 on the Motorway

Check with Michael at Jabba, he may want a few miles on the car before he maps it, just to let it loosen a touch

As for whipping Oil burning Beemers, No Prob, I had my 4x4 Jabbad (same engine as the RS) Beemers are not a problem. If you bump into anyone who went on this years Cannonball ask them about the Skoda, he he he , even got past a Ferrari 348 so Bavarian Dustbins will be no problem (Excluding M Series or highly modded ones)

If you are anywhere near Winchester you are welcome to have a spin in mine if it helps boost your confidence, the cars different to a RS but the power delivery should be about the same.

thanks for the offer but im in leics.

so how does it work taht your 4x4 has the same engine as a vRS. the idea of 4 wheel drive on such a high powered car would be very tempting!

i think it's fair point about the control being in the right foot but will a jabba'd vRS mean having shares in BP?

In many cases after Jabba-ing the mpg goes up.....40mpg is achievable on motorway runs.

Of course if you flex your right foot a lot the mpg is going to go down.

The 4x4 system is a bit of a hybrid, its 2 wheel drive until it senses the fronts are slipping the engages the rears, its one of the Audi developed systems.

You would need to do a fair amount more modding to get the handling near to the RS (Ive done suspension, brakes, Wheels etc) Its interior is also less sporty & it lacks spoilers etc but I purposly wanted a quick car that didnt look too flash

The 4x4 as std is 150 bhp. RS is 180 but both remap to the same 220-230 without any other mods.

The other down side is that the 4x4 now only comes as an Estate. I think & others will I guess confirm that the RS handles the power well, you just have to be careful off the line. Also the RS is generally a bit better on fuel economy due to probably the fact that its slightly lighter & has taller gearing, mine is hitting the Red at 150 but I believe the RS in top is good for 170 before it runs out of revs (It will need more than a map to achieve that speed)

The best thing for economy is cruise control, I use it all the time on our Diesel & it really helps, Not sure if the RS has it as std but its a very easy retrofit & your dealer should be able to do it cheaply, less than

Don't worry about fuel economy. I've just done a trip up to Scotland and back (the back way following hadrians wall) followed by a return trip to Leeds - probably a ton up all the way on the way back and av fuel consumption is 33 mpg. Which I'm sure you'll agree aint bad for a car with 230 bhp....

Ken,

I did 230 miles back from Anglesey on saturday on just less than half a tank from full. The computer was showing over 35 mpg, my average speed (as per computer) was 75 mph ;)

As for the BMW 330D. A standard vRS will keep pace (trust me, i know ;) )..

A Jabba'd one will wipe the floor with it :D

I don't think you'll regret the vRS be it in estate or hatchback form.

Welcome to Briskoda

Er, no not in my case. Definately dropped by about 1mpg on average after my visit to Jabba Land.

Wow...1mpg...

Must be a real wallet-killer that Jimmy

sop have you ahd your's jabba'd?

Ken,

Indeed i have, to the tune of 233 Bhp ;)

I'd recommend both the Octavia vRS and Jabbasport to anyone

Ken,

The remap will give you potentially better mpg, certainly on a run BUT when you really use the power its going to be worse but to be honest, apart from on the track or accasional blasts can you use the full power all the time. Most people are getting better mpg.

I think i'll give the dealer a ring right now. Bring on the oakley wearing beemer cheeses!!

Just to add to the economy debate..

35+mpg is easily achievable on a motroway run. However i was fortunate to be a passenger in a rather (in)famous Black vRS on a track on satruday which was showing the rather scary figure of 7mpg and 85 miles range with 3/4 of a tank remaining

Which is a perfect demonstration of the 2 sides of vRS tuning, you can have performance & economy in the same package, to use as you please, for around

Ken - reference was made earlier to Huck being someone to ask on this - as background he had an Octy RS then sold it to get a BMW 330D, but then had a change of heart and sold the bimmer for another Octy RS (his is APR chipped). So there you - an unbiased opinion
