Which brake fluid?

Thats is a load of tosh.

5.1 is silicone based, anything below that isnt.

They will not mix.

Perhaps you'd care to read some of the links above before venturing this opinion? Some rather well qualified people say it isn't.

Dot 5 = silicone based

Dot 5.1 = glycol based same as Dot 3 and 4.

I was mistakenly thinking of something I'd obviously not read correctly on the back of a bottle in Halfords.

So is it worth trimming this thread, stealing all the useful bits and making a sticky about which brake fluids work together etc etc?

This question and the views on DOT 5.1 / Super 4 come up a lot.

The DOT 5.1 at halfords is definetely not silicone based and does state on the back of the bottle that it meets or exceeds the standards for Super DOT 4. I'm still none the wiser though. :confused:
